Anduin Wrynn
- High King of the Alliance
As a boy, Anduin Wrynn believed that peace was the highest ideal. But as a man, he must put his beliefs to the test.
The son of Tiffin and High King Varian Wrynn, Anduin Llane Wrynn was the heir to the throne of Stormwind. His father, a legendary warrior, sought to train him in the ways of noble battle, but Anduin found himself drawn to the philosophy of mediation. His studies with the wizard Jaina Proudmoore grounded him in diplomacy, and his mentor, Prophet Velen, guided him in the arts of the Holy Light.
During the Pandaren campaign, the war between the Alliance and the Horde entered a new phase of brutality and horror. Anduin's efforts to ease the conflict seemed to be for naught, yet he refused to give up, struggling to prevent the hidden, dark energies of Pandaria from exploding out of control. In a bold confrontation with Warchief Garrosh Hellscream, Anduin stopped the sha's great evil from being weaponized—and was nearly killed for it.
After Anduin recovered from his grievous injuries, he devoted much of his energy to cooling tensions between the Alliance and the Horde, an especially critical task while both factions' armies marched into Draenor to face the Iron Horde.
During the Burning Legion's catastrophic invasion of Azeroth, Anduin lost his father, High King Varian Wrynn, forcing him to lead the Alliance even as he grieved. As he worked to save lives and fend off the demons’ advance, Anduin had to reconcile his yearning for peace with the necessity of war.
The demise of the Legion at the hands of both the Horde and the Alliance gave Anduin hope of finally seeing peace in Azeroth. But Horde’s attack on Teldrassil made him realize that his dreams can never come to fruition so long as Sylvanas Windrunner is their Warchief. Anduin is determined to ensure the future of the Alliance and bring an end to the Banshee Queen’s insidious reign.
