Var'dyn Skyseeker is a Highborne and apprentice to Archmage Mordent Evenshade. Though haughty, he respects Malfurion and others who are able to wield powerful forces. He is discontent with being unable to practice the arcane without restriction in Darnassus. Due to the limitations placed on the Highborne, he tries to lead a group of Highborne to practice their art in secret, though Malfurion catches him and reprimands him. He is also discontent with the Highborne being ostracized by the night elves, despite promises from Malfurion and Tyrande that they would be fully integrated into their society.
When the Highborne were being killed off by an unknown assailant, Var'dyn was outraged. He even suspected Darnassus to be complicit in the murders but Archmage Evenshade vouched for Malfurion's word that they were doing everything in their power to bring the murderer to justice. Nonetheless, Var'dyn and a group of like-minded Highborne took matters into their own hands and started investigating the murders themselves. Var'dyn's tactless interrogations, however, seemed to only irritate the night elf populace and cause tension between them and the Highborne. He accompanied Archmage Evenshade and the rest of the Highborne to a meeting with Maiev, who claimed to have caught the murderer. Yet this was a lie to lure the Highborne into Maiev's trap. who revealed herself to be the assassin responsible for the Highborne murders. Var'dyn fought the effects of the trap that left the Highborne immobilized and tried to summon a spell to retaliate against Maiev but the trap silenced him and burned him alive, effectively killing him.[1]
