Thanks for editing my character's page, but why did you post "Duskwatch/Allidar Duskwatch"? The character's in-game name isn't Duskwatch, it's Allidar...

boilerplating items

Hey, I noticed you were filling in some articles I subst-ed the item boilerplate on. Are you doing those by hand or are you a bot because each time where I subst it then come back to fill in, you beat me to it. :-P WoWWiki-Zsinj (talk) 14:21, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

RE: Guild:Galactica guildpage got Deleted.

I got a message on mytalk page giving a simple reference to the policy and guidelines page. But i still don't know which point i violated. I used a well known guildpage on my server Turalyon:EU (Nice Guyz) as a template for my guildpage. It would be nice if you delete a guildpage which people made some effort of making to atleast state why it was deleted. A delete with just a referance to the policies works kind of unmotivating. But i get the feeling this place is not really ment for me anyway.

Thanks!

Image testing

Hi there, I am trying to do some tests with image uploads in the sandbox. Are you auto-deleting small images (states: low quality)? It's just for testing purposes and the immediate deletions really make it difficult to make progress with this. Thanks! --Greco02 (talk) 10:42, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

I had several of my fan map images deleted for not being used; I'd like to say that they were all linked to my maps page, but I didn't display them all so my page would look cleaner. Emberwyrms/Magmawyrms

I have a source too: N [15-30] Neltharion's Flame. This means that either the two types of dragons are one and the same (the names used interchangably), or one of the names is a subtype of the other, or they are two different types of undead dragon that happen to look the same... what to do? =/ ---- Varghedin.jpg Varghedin  talk / contribs 15:44, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Perhaps. In my way of thinking, Emberwyrms were a type of magmawyrms that were sent to pester the Horde. I had noticed the dragons themselves but I didn't know of the quest that mentioned them. Anyway our current information is inconclusive but either way I do think they should be distinguished from other types of undead dragons like frost wyrms. ---- Varghedin.jpg Varghedin  talk / contribs 16:47, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
I see now. Although that quest chain doesn't mention magmawyrms (unless you're seeing something I'm not), it does mention that emberwyrms are in fact *RED* dragons raised from the dead, here: A [15-30] Heated Battle. And so we can conclude that Emberwyrms and Magmawyrms are in fact different types of dragons - Emberwyrms are undead red dragons, and Magmawyrms are undead black dragons. It does make sense too, as "ember" is more reminiscent of the red dragons' portfolio, life (as in the spark of life), than the black's (earth, which fits with magma).---- Varghedin.jpg Varghedin  talk / contribs 12:58, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of Toughness (disambiguation)

I saw through the logs that you've deleted the page Toughness (disambiguation). Explicit disambiguation links are an important part of using "what links here" as a long term strategy for cleaning up links to disambiguation pages. Kindly don't delete them, especially unilaterally, without comment, and without notice to editors. Rigel Kent (talk) 12:06, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

It is still here [Toughness]. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 12:12, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
The point of having a "(disambiguation)" redirect to a disambiguation page is for ease of cleanup. Nearly all of the time, if an article links to [Toughness], it's in need of cleanup. Articles linking to Toughness (disambiguation), though, will be grouped separately in the "what links here" list, clearly indicating they're supposed to be linking there (this is the case with [Toughness]). It sounds duplicative, but it saves time in the long run. Rigel Kent (talk) 12:36, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
The main page [Toughness] is the disambiguation because there's different things that has the name Toughness, and neither of them has any more important meaning than the other. There's no need at all to make a "(disambiguation)" page link to the main Toughness article. g0urra[T҂C] 12:44, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Help:Disambiguation - If you think it should not be done as described here, maybe you should call for a vote and update the Help article. Reeina (talk) 17:05, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

I think Gourra was just making it look nicer. Also, the Help:Disambiguation shows you what to do when you run into things like abilities or items that are similiar rather than the same quest that just has small differences. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 02:36, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
It does look cleaner, no doubt about that. But I assume that the help article was written after some agreement was reached about how to handle disambiguations. So either they should be handled like it is explained there or the article needs to be updated. Reeina (talk) 12:03, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Maybe someone could add another example under Help:Disambiguation saying what to do when you run into similiar quests. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 12:08, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Titles of works

I know we talked about this before but you reverted it still. As it says in Project:MOS, "The titles of articles, chapters, and other short works are not italicized but are enclosed in double quotation marks." Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 12:12, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

{{item}} vs. {{loot}}

I noticed you changed my usage of {{item|Empty Barrel|icon=}} to {{loot|poor|Empty Barrel}} on  [Hefty Barrel]. I can see there is an important difference on pages that have a huge number of items listed (due to the transclusion vs. not), or for linking to items that don't yet have an article, but I'm not quite sure why you changed this particular usage. One advantage I see to using {{item}} is that it will auto-update any change to the quality (rare, but does happen from time to time), but {{loot}} would require every link to the updated item to be updated. Was my usage wrong in that context? I'm really just asking so that I can avoid any mistake in future. If I was wrong, reading Help:Tooltips didn't make the correct usage clear to me, so perhaps we need to clarify the usage there. --Murph (talk · contr) 11:32, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Depends on what you use... if you were to click and compare from the three sites (wowhead, thottbot, and allakhazam) you'll see that neither of them match. However, Wowhead is more dependable for correct info. So the page is correct if compared to wowhead. And the page (that Tomza rewrote to) is correct according to thottbot. I'm sure wowhead is correct though. Tomza (talk) 23:28, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 23:31, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

I did the quest myself and checked to see if it was accurate. The quest items required, rewards, it was all correct except for the quest id that links to Wowhead and such. Tomza (talk) 23:34, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

The quest that you correct after is not accurate. The Wowhead version is the correct one, after seeing it both in-game and on Wowhead.
And Coobra, the one Thottbot is listing is not at all correct; is lists the cut gems ([Bright Bloodstone]) instead of the uncut one ([Bloodstone]), which is very old. g0urra[T҂C] 00:04, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Undoing my additions

Dude, y do u keep undoing my additions to the Major Characters page? You should at least explain y, plus its not like i put them on Orange dot or Red, i also put them in the correct place. I admit that undoing the Scarlet Crusade part was fine since i put there so someone would put those guys in the correct place. Also, I think the Four Horsemen are important characters since they were first introduced in WoW Naxx patch and now in Ashbringer. You deleted my pictures.

The two images on my User page were not "Abandoned/unused". They were quite an appropriate size, right there in my user page and in plain sight. I would like them back, please. :/ You had no right to do that; I just joined today, and this is really not a very warm welcome. --Avemorielle (talk) 04:17, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

Okay... this morning, you wordlessly restored one of them, not both. That doesn't help me. And they aren't going to re-appear on my page, so there's not much good in that. If I re-upload them, can I be assured that they WON'T just be haphazardly deleted again? Because I can happily just host them elsewhere if it will make you leave me alone, but I didn't think that was what I was actually supposed to do. Please help. --Avemorielle (talk) 14:33, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
I only got an e-mail telling me that ONE was restored; naturally, I assumed that you only restored one. You must understand that new users may not know how to handle situations like this. You should not have deleted them haphazardly in the first place unless your system for checking whether an image is "Unused/Abandoned" is wrong. I mean, doesn't that make sense? --Avemorielle (talk) 14:42, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

Deprecate Elinks-object/wotlk?

Hiya. I'm approaching you as the only contributor to Template:Elinks-object/wotlk. Is there any reason it shouldn't be deprecated for Template:Elinks-object, as was done for the other Elinks-*/wotlk templates? I can't see a reason why we still need it, but I'm not going to touch it without a second opinion that it should be deprecated, in case I'm not spotting some reason that we need different handling for WotLK objects. Oh and if it helps, the RPG lists all the races with lower-case except for Ironforge dwarves, Wildhammer dwarves, etc. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 13:09, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

I make a spelling mistake and you're trying to make a point? Sorry, but if you're going to be a wiseass, then beat it. g0urra[T҂C] 13:11, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
What are you talking about? I am just asking if we should make the names of races with two or more words in them both lower-case like the RPG. Nevermind. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 13:14, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
I see what you mean. If the race is the starting of a sentence, then the first word should be uppercase, by logic. For example a sentence would start with "Night elf society ..." instead of "night elf society", and "The night elves ..." instead of "The Night elves". Ironforge dwarves etc is an exception as Ironforge is a location. g0urra[T҂C] 13:18, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
I mean in the infobox not in a sentence. Here is how it is in the RPG, then you can see what I am getting at. Maybe you won't like it but I am just wondering. This is the RPG describing Darkshore for my example "Population: 9,000 (87% night elf, 6% furbolg, 5%
Ironforge dwarf, 2% other)". Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 13:23, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
That's not how we have it. g0urra[T҂C] 13:24, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
I know. I was just wondering if there was a reason why races are spelled, for example, "Night elf", but not "night elf" or "Night Elf" when it is in infoboxes. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 13:26, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
We have it the way it is, and it's fine. There's no need to change. g0urra[T҂C] 13:34, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Guildlink armory default

Hiya. I noticed that you removed the option to control the armory link on {{Guildlink}}. I'm wondering if this is a good idea, as I can see situations where it might be desirable to just link the guild's name, without the elink, e.g. in the middle of text, rather than in the list of guilds on a server page. It's not a big issue, particularly since we can just use normal wiki links instead of the template, just I can't help feeling that greater flexibility is better. --Murph (talk · contr) 09:46, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

I think it's fine as it is now, but if you feel that it's necessary, then I'm not against it. g0urra[T҂C] 09:48, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
I've thought about it a little more, and I'm going to make it optional again, on the basis that elinks should normally be the exception rather than the default on a wiki. If that creates any work for you, I'm happy to share the load. If it turns out to be a bad call on my part, it's not something I feel that strongly about. --Murph (talk · contr) 11:40, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Editing of Drenden

I understand your removal of the line about "The Elite" guild, but I am a bit dissapointed with your removal of the famous Drendenites list. Its all in good humor and I even include myself and nobody would take any offense to it seeing as the bit about Progeny is a part of our history.

And what is wrong with the icon? Can I not choose an icon for our server? If any other Drendenite decided to change it to something else I would be accepting, but you totally removing it is a little pestering because I do not understand your point.

Thank You and Happy New Year!

Thank You for your "Newbie Links" and explanation. I appreciate it. I was under the impression that since their isnt ::official material on the server Drenden that it would be acceptable to make a biased submission.

It should be World of Warcraft Bestiary; that's the in general used name for the guide. g0urra[T҂C] 08:15, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
I don't want to necessarily be involved in this argument, but I thought I'd mention that www.worldcat.org is what librarians use for this sort of information. Link In this case it makes the "bestiary" lower case though... which maybe complicates things. But in most cases this should be more reliable than a bookseller as a source. -- Mordsith - (talk|contr) 12:59, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
I don't know about that site. Look how they spelled this title: Warcraft. Volume 1, Dragon hunt : Sunwell triology. They put a period after Warcraft, made hunt and trilogy lower case, and messed up the spelling of trilogy. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 13:13, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Actually it occured to me that the lower case is because catalogers only capitalize the first word. See The catcher in the rye for example. They did put a bunch of punctuation in the title you're referring to. The citations don't include that though. They show the suggested way the book should be cited on a reference list.
Edit: Additionally, catalogers use that punctuation to differentiate between names of series, volumes etc, which wowwiki seems to be doing using categories. In the original example, worldcat shows that there was no series or subheading, the title of the book is "World of Warcraft Bestiary". In the example you provided, the title has pieces, "Volume 1", "Dragon Hunt", "Sunwell Trilogy" (and yes it appears they spelled that wrong though I can't see the book cover very well) which wowwiki is indicating by using different articles for the series and for each volume.
Edit: And again, I'm not speaking for wowwiki here. Just offering a suggestion for a source we might want to use to settle disputes such as this. If the admins don't agree, the choice is really up to them. -- Mordsith - (talk|contr) 13:41, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Although the publisher is not Blizzard, I thought they would have a good idea on how the spelling of the titles of books were? I thought World of Warcraft: Bestiary was the right spelling since they spelled it like that on the Blizzard Store site. The best way to see how we should spell a title is if we had a pict, or knew someone that had the book, of the spine of the book. That is where you usually find the correct title with colons, symbols, etc. because the cover of the book usually never shows colons as it is just big logos and letters. For instance, all the guidebooks do not have colons on the cover just the logos. As an example is the guidebook for WotLK. It has on the cover "World of Warcraft", then "Wrath of the Lich King", and finally "Official Strategy Guide", with "BradyGames" floating around somewhere. If you look at the spine of the book though, you will see it says "World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Official Strategy Guide". Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 11:11, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Not all of them are titled "World of Warcraft: ... ". g0urra[T҂C] 11:55, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
I know, but a majority are spelled like that. Some titles even use a longer version than WoWWiki does. For instance, the RPG books are actually titled "World of Warcraft The Roleplaying Game: Dark Factions", "World of Warcraft The Roleplaying Game: Alliance & Horde Compedium", etc. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 12:08, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Majority or not, they should have the correct title. g0urra[T҂C] 12:10, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
I agree. What about the RPG books though? The correct titles are "World of Warcraft The Roleplaying Game: Dark Factions", "World of Warcraft The Roleplaying Game: Alliance & Horde Compedium", etc. aren't they? Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 12:15, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

On Coobra's comment: Rolandius is tagging every redirect for deletion after he moves, and not cleaning up the soon-to-be-dead links. BTW, there was a first edition, so Rolandius may be confusing the two.--SWM2448 22:14, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Gourra, you changed some of the titles back like Warcraft: Legends Volume One to "Warcraft: Legends Volume 1" and World of Warcraft: Dungeon Companion II to "World of Warcraft: Dungeon Companion 2" when you can clearly see the cover image has the numbers spelled out the way I spelled it. Just pointing out that the actual book spelling the numbers in its title on itself is a pretty good source. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 06:19, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
Look at any book and you'll see that the volumes are called "Volume 1" instead of "Volume One" in bookstores. g0urra[T҂C] 07:33, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
I am just going by what I can see on the cover image. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 12:04, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

So is that the general policy? If an item is going to change, we just update it pre-emptively? I just noticed a lot of items, in particular glyphs and blacksmithing created items are changing. Should I update them too, or just put in the patch notes and update them after the patch? -Howbizr (talk) 20:25, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Paladins as Caster Dps

If Paladins are not Caster Dps, then why does Wowarmory show class=Paladin and then type=Healer, Tank, Melee Dps, and Caster Dps? Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 02:46, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Moving an image

I wanted to move an image (instead of manually cutting and pasting to the new page, causing you to revert my edit and fix my mistake) ;) Except it seems that images don't have a "move" button at the top of the page. I wanted to change Image:(mob) En'kilah Crypt Lord.jpg to Image:En'kilah Crypt Lord.jpg. Is cut/paste the only way? -- Mordsith - (talk|contr) 19:55, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Manual of Monsters

I'm attempting to clean up the category trees, starting with Category:Mobs. Considering that my knowledge of anything not-WoW is a bit lacking, I wanted to ask your opinion. I'd like to create a category for monsters based on the Manual of Monsters so that these articles don't just get thrown into the WoW categories and forgotten unless they belong there. For instance, Abyssal lamprey doesn't really have any correlate in WoW. I'm thinking about creating Category:RPG monsters to contain anything that would be covered by the Manual. (This would follow the naming convention of Category:RPG professions, Category:RPG classes etc)

Category:Creatures would be a subcategory of this as well as of Category:Mobs so that the Creatures of Azeroth are tied to both WoW and the RPG. I created visual Tree Structures in my sandbox so that you can see a little better what I mean. What do you think? -- Mordsith - (talk|contr) 16:12, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

On Eclipse

Why is it unnecessary to mention that although there is a patch note stating that Eclipse's cooldown is now 40 seconds, it is 30 seconds on live? I know that the tooltip on the page states that it has a 30 second cooldown, but that can just cause confusion, especially for people who don't have a druid and can't check for themselves. Weapon Lists

I am attempting to make a more ergonomic way to show lists of items rather than just "Category:This". The first thing I was going to attempt was to put each individual weapon type into lists by quality. I realize they're not viable as stand alone pages, but they were not meant to remain that way. Rather than deleting them, could you suggest a better way of going about doing this? Or at least give a better reason for deleting them than "only one contributor." If you look, the page was created only two days ago. Please give a suggestion as to what I should do. If not, then at least let me have free reign for a while yet and see if I can come up with something useful.Hikui87 (talk) 18:14, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

  • The pages are (or were) List of Poor Quality Two-Handed Swords, List of Poor Quality One-Handed Axes, and List of Poor Quality Two-Handed Axes. Hikui87 (talk) 12:27, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Guild:Celestial Dawn Deleted

Hi, you've deleted our gilde page http://www.wowwiki.com/Guild:Celestial_Dawn_%28Aman%27Thul_EU%29. I would like to ask you if it is possible to restore the page? If there was something wrong with it, it would be cool if you just give me a hint instead of just deleting the page. Costs alot of time to write is... I'll fix the page if necessary just tell me what was wrong.

thank you -Laktat (talk) 15:28, 9 February 2009 (UTC)laktat

It was deleted per Project:GUILD. It was stubbed for 30 days prior to deletion, that was your hint. Looks like it needs proper categorization. --Pcj (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 15:46, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
mh i didn't even noticed that it was stubbed (no email notification etc). Not very much changed for our gilde the last months because of lack of content in wotlk... so I don't visit the page that often ;) would be nice if you can simply restore it and I'll take a look at the categorization (but I don't know what sould have been wrong with it to be honest) Laktat (talk) 16:01, 9 February 2009 (UTC)laktat
OK, it's restored. --Pcj (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 16:09, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

A favor

Hi mate, could you check if User:WoW Fan Story Writer and User:Jaberwaki use the same IP address? I suspect they're the same person.... --User:ShandrisForever 21:50, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Chronological order

The Help articles for abilities and talents actually say chronological order, not inverted chronological order. The use over different articles is not consistent currently. What makes you so sure that your personal opinion is correct here? Reeina (talk) 02:16, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your answer, even though it is not helpful at all. At the first glance it sounded like "I know it better, cause I know better." to me. And after reading it a second and a third time, it still has exactly the same impression on me. Reeina (talk) 10:27, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Field Duty (quest)

I felt that the Disambig tag - and the links to the individual quests - were a strong enough indication on their own that this was not the same as "an individual quest in Blizzard's database". The additions of "(paraphrased)" depart as well from standard quest text. If after considering this, you feel strongly enough about removing the questbox template, I will not object further.

However, I do feel strongly that the quests are similar enough - dissimilar mostly in the details of the monster - that discussion of both branches of the quest should have a common place.

I very much would have appreciated your having tagged my talk page with complaints before zapping my edit. And I do entertain further discussion on this topic; I am a fairly unenlightened soul generally, and am often in the wrong. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 00:14, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

either you write the quest text as it is in the game or you don't - In the interests of providing the user information when they request it, instead of having to pass through a disambiguation page to separate pages that may or may not be maintained concurrently, I guess I "don't". Do you feel that this does the seeker of information a disservice? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:15, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

I have altered the Vote description on Field Duty to better reflect what I intended. Unsure of protocol in this situation, in lieu of wiping the voting box, I am asking each current voter to consider whether his/her vote reflects the new description. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:57, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
