Welcome to the NP Patrol!

Check out the NP Patrol tasks for starters. You might want to ask the other team members what kind of things thy like to do, since I'm mostly hands off when leading the team. My eventual goal is to turn over leadership of the team. Anything you can do is good. Don't hesitate to ask any questions. You can put them on my talk page, your talk page, or the NP Patrol Discussion page

Spam Cleaning

Hey, you're doing a great job on spam cleaning! Glad to see someone also regularly helping out. I added you to the Cleaners category. I hope you don't mind. --Fandyllic

Thank you for the recognition. Still testing the waters and working on the small stuff. Hoping to soon start tackling stubbs with no content that I'll need to write from scrtach. Scary stuff! --Dracomage 16:14, 2 Dec 2005 (EST)

Welcome

Welcome to Wowpedia!
As you already have, we hope you can continue to help the community and vice versa :-)
If you have any questions, someone will gladly answer them, or you could drop them at the reference desk.
We just wanted to say welcome, and to encourage you to continue contributing! --Fandyllic (talk)

Want to help more? Join a team!

As a community it is easier to get large amounts of maintenance and community projects done in teams - we like to encourage each wiki-user (also known as Wowpedians) to join one or two. Check out Community teams for more info! --Fandyllic (talk)

  • I'm struggling a bit to find time for the stuff going on in my life, so as much as I like to join a team, I cannot make the time commitment. --Dracomage 08:45, 20 Dec 2005 (EST)
    • I noticed you more recently submitted a request to join the NP Patrol... are you still interested? If so, put a comment on the NP patrol join page after your initial request. --Fandyllic 2:09 PM PDT 19 Jun 2006

Want to participate? Vote!

WoWWiki isn't an absolute democracy, but many decisions are voted on. Also, we encourage members to vote on site policies. See a list of votes in progress or a list of policy proposals. --Fandyllic (talk) 2:06 PM PDT 19 Jun 2006

Instance Guide:The Deadmines

In Instance Guide:The Deadmines, I see that while you were changing other spellings of Rhahk'Zor, you linked them. Generally it's not desireable to have more than one link to a given page within such a small span of screen space. I'd link the one that's most relevant to the subject (most often the first mention, but not necessarily always). After that, it looks too busy when you add more links after that.

Other than that, I noticed that you had links such as [[Instance Guide:The Deadmines#The Defias Brotherhood Quest|Rewards]], when that could have been shortened to [[#The Defias Brotherhood Quest|Rewards]]. That's no big deal though. Schmidt 13:03, 19 May 2006 (EDT)

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I might have gone overboard linking. --Dracomage 09:30, 22 May 2006 (EDT)

Epic Item Linking

Nice job on the epic item linking. Couple quick things:

  1. Watch out on your spelling of Orgrimmar. You spelled it Ogrimar several times. Not that big of a deal since the mispelled link was redirected to the correct one. I know I mispell it a lot when writing an initial page but usually catch it on the preview.
  2. Why are you creating links for NPCs that have "NPC:" at the beginning? An example is NPC:Sergeant Thunderhorn. Everywhere else, it appears we're linking just the name.

Anyways, good job on the linking! - ClydeJr 09:03, 13 June 2006 (EDT)

Orgrimar... <sheepish grin> I'm an Alliance player.. what did you expect! NPC: - I thought this was the correct way to link them, similar to Quest: ? If not, in future I'll just use the name. My apologies. --Dracomage 12:23, 13 June 2006 (EDT)
Hehe, alot of people make that mistake. Especially us Alliance players :) Very well done on the epic linking, I'll help you out tomorrow. If WoWWiki has the equivalent of a barnstar, you would be a prime candidate ;) Jeoh 13:28, 22 June 2006 (EDT)
Thank Jeoh. I have lost a bit of speed after getting all the epic weapons laoded. The lists on the Cloth/leather/mail/plate/shield/cloak/off-hand just made me dispair. I have since started looking more into the armor sets and and creating stubs for missing items. (until I regain my determination to tackle the epic lists). :D --Dracomage 14:46, 22 June 2006 (EDT)
On a general sidenote, it may be best to leave those pages alone if all you're adding is a {{Stub/Item}}. Leaving them that way allows people to quickly see which items need their information contributed from related pages, rather than just by stumbling onto the page or browsing the item stubs category. In short, fill in Help:Item articles for every new item page you're adding. Yes, it's slower, but it's quality! --Starlightblunder 07:57, 23 June 2006 (EDT)
Star - Will do. My apologies. Will work on filling in all the stubs I created.--Dracomage 11:00, 23 June 2006 (EDT)
Starlightblunder I have filled in most the stubs I created. --Dracomage 10:41, 28 June 2006 (EDT)

Boilerplates

Thanks for the input, however since im not doing it the way you like, im gonna stop contributing. Obviously its not good enough for you so im just gonna stop and make it easier. Instead of "Correcting" people, make the changes you want. Thanks. --Heatheren 10:23, 23 June 2006 (EDT)

Thta was not my intent with the comment. regarding the Sul'thraze page. A page already existed, and I merely wanted to help you improve your contributions. --Dracomage 10:21, 23 June 2006 (EDT)

No Content Pages

It is my understanding that this is why Wiki has Stub's in the first place Draco. I am merely trying to organize the category lists, and ensure that each of the regions has the proper set of categories prior to adding content to the page. I am sorry that this is not the way you would personally do things, but I strongly believe that this is why wiki has created stub templates in the first place. Again my goal here is to have an organized baseline for the content which will be added later. If you'll notice my total contributions you'll see that in fact I do add a great deal of content in addition to categorizing regions/npc's/quests. I am sorry that you don't personally appreciate it, but I believe that categorizing pages is in fact of value to other users of wiki. Thanks --Rascilon 1:04, 16, August 2006 (PST)

No Content Pages Response

Ok. We both have the same goal here to improve the utility of the site, so let me know what the team leader has to say about this issue. From what I can tell on the guidelines it is a little ambigious. Anyhow, I should mention that I have already added a stub for every single subzone in the game that didn't already have one, so there won't be anymore stuff added there.

If you would ask the team leader this: Without stubs, how are the editors supposed to locate pages in need of content? (It seems to me that looking up individual pages and red links is not the best method of doing this as it increases the likihood of creating double listings for the same content, if they are called by slightly different names from different pages, particularly effecting NPC s which can often be mis-spelled). Secondly, if the pages have the content added first, it is highly likely that they will be mis-categorized, as each editor tends to have a their own specific way of listing. If the categories are there to begin with, wouldn't this make the information more organized?

No Page Content Response 2

Not to beat a dead horse but on the Stub policy page it says specifically: Stub Policy

"Throughout WoWWiki are articles with little or no content that have been created with the intention of filling them in. These are refered to as stubs and are tagged specifically to tell visitors that they are, in fact, stubs, and to make it easier for other contributors to find them."

I am wondering if the individual that told you to stop creating stubs was familiar with this policy or if this statement is contradicted elsewhere.

Battlegroup lists on server pages

Before you go adding the battlegroup lists to any other server pages, I've finished template that already has the battlegroup info. It's at Template:Infobox Battlegroup. I'm also working on an infobox for general server info that includes the battlegroups, but it won't be finished until User:Rustak gets MediaWiki 1.7.x installed which has a few additional template features I'd like to make use of. I was planning on adding all the battlegroups to the server pages once I got the server template finished, but that upgrade probably won't happen for a few weeks. --Rahskala 08:13, 23 August 2006 (EDT)

Dope! Thanks for the heads-up! I just wanted to add the info for my server and then did our Battlegroup. Will wait a day or so before hitting the others using your template. --Dracomage 08:19, 23 August 2006 (EDT)

Thanks

Thanks for catching that missed category for the  [Felcloth Shoulders]!! Let me know if you have any tips as I'm still learning the wiki ropes. Emerez 17:34, 24 August 2006 (EDT)

Tips when adding item articles

I like that you've been adding lots of items, but some of the formatting annoys me:

  • Please put the stub at the top. It makes it easier to get rid of when it's not needed anymore.
  • Please don't put a space at the beginning of text unless you realy mean for it to be pre-format text.
  • If you could, please put a period at the end of you sentences. This isn't really necessary, but it bugs me.

--Fandyllic (talk) 3PM PDT 22 Sep 2006

No problem at all. Sorry for the formatting. I was bored during a conference call and wanted to get all the items from instances tagged with the cat:instance:<instance name> and then saw how many items was Missing from Wiki. So I added them at high-speed without paying attention to how it looked. I planned on cleaning it up during this week.--Dracomage 23:20, 23 September 2006 (EDT)

Icon Uploading

Hey there! Just a quick suggestion that, if you're going to be uploading an icon for the WoW Wiki, please double check that it's not already in place and being used. The ShortBlade 24 icon you just uploaded was already in place, so I've marked it for deletion. Easiest way is to check the directory here. We're working on ways to make it better and easier to find them, so feel free to suggest or contribute! Cheers. --Tusva 11:32, 25 September 2006 (EDT)

Quest Rewards Category

Is the Quest Rewards category new? If it is, I'll add it to the item boilerplate. - ClydeJr 15:13, 13 November 2006 (EST)

Been around for about a month I think. Around the same time as the big Cats clean up I did (rings, cloaks, trinkets). I should have thought to check the template to see if it was aded, but have not had time, except for the the quick cusrsory review of new pages (and staying on top of gossip via Mikk's talk page ;) )--Dracomage 15:21, 13 November 2006 (EST)

BC Banner

I noticed that you added the BC banner to a couple items. The place where you put it forced all the text to move below the tooltip which looked strange. I moved the banner above the tooltip into the noinclude brackets along with the __NOTOC__. Check out  [Akama's Sash] for example. - ClydeJr 14:23, 14 February 2007 (EST)

When did they change that BC banner??? The previous version did not span the entire page witht. --Dracomage 06:37, 15 February 2007 (EST)
You're right, looks like it got switched on Feb 13th. I like the new banner anyway. The old one was too "wordy". This one is simple and clean. - ClydeJr 10:27, 15 February 2007 (EST)

Your opinion is desired

I just wanted to solicit your opinion on whether WoWWiki should leave Wikia. Please let me know if you have any questions - or post them on the forums. --Pcj (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 22:04, October 5, 2010 (UTC)
