Monk Icon
Hello, thanks for uploading that Monk icon. However, I have reverted your edit on Monk on changing the Pandaren icon to this one as you did not provide a source for it. Community site still displays the Pandaren icon so it wasn't from there. Where did you find this? — Surafbrov T / C 13:21, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
Hello ! Yeah, it was not obvious to me that we had to source images, silly me. Unfortunately, I am unable to find an official source for this particular image. The closest one is the icon found in the game data files. The crest itself has been used since patch 7.0.1 as the background of the artifact traits screen, as seen in the imgur link in this reddit post. It is still in use today in the Dragonflight talent tree. When you change talents and validate the talent panel, the crest flashes at the center of the screen and it is that crest, not the Pandaren one. It must be somewhere in the data file as well, but I lack the technical skills required to extract it from there.
Unfortunately, the only two other occurrences of the Monk crest that I found on Google Images come from reddit posts where the link to the image itself is dead. The images only survived through Pinterest. You can see the picture and access the reddit post through the Pinterest pages here and here. The picture I uploaded is the one from the first link that I cropped to 252x252. However, the picture in the second link is quite interesting as well because it has some kind of green hue on top of it, similar to the Pandaren crest, that is missing from the picture in the first link. I did some digging in the game data files on WoW.tools and I found a few files that reference the Monk class crest, but never a clear picture, unfortunately. This one is for me the very first appearance of the new Monk crest as it is the artifact ui added in patch 7.0.1. You need to click on the "eye" button icon on the right of the screen, then you might have to scroll down to see the actual crest as it is below the picture. It can also be seen, albeit partially, there. It does appear during the "glowing" effect when validating talents in Dragonflight but it looks like screenshots are prohibited so you'll need to create a monk class trial to check it for yourself. I was able to find the filigree mask used for the glowing effect. The preview doesn't work for this one so I uploaded the PNG file instead at File:talentsanimationsmaskfiligreeactivate.png. It turns out the effect mask is generic and does not include the class crests. Moreover, the class crests that are added on top of it do not have the surrounding glyphs etc that the crests found on the artifact ui used to have. Therefore, the proper crests must be somewhere in the game files. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find it after hours of scouring the files. User:B6i6o6 12:54, 5 October 2023 (UTC)
