Storm Fortress Hygarlius is the eighth boss encounter inside Uldris. This fight is fought on two fronts: on top of the airship and in the skies. While unable to attack the boss directly, players need to damage Hygarlius through engines that power the machine's massive bulk. However, these engines are split up among the boss. With three on the deck and two near the hull's bottom, the raid needs to split up and dismantle Hygarlius from both the skies and atop the massive sky fortress. Doing this while handling the numerous adds that spawn over the course of the encounter makes Hygarlius a fairly difficult fight.

Background

The Iron Dwarfs of Uldris use the machine known as Hygarlius as a transport to get around the massive Facility. Whenever its used for transport, Hygarlius goes into its current transport mode. However, when bombing and assault missions are initiated, the high-powered automaton changes its form, becoming a devastating airship armed with cannons and guns which has seen much use to the Iron dwarfs. With the recent invasion of the facility of Uldris, the Iron dwarfs call upon Hygarlius to take its massive form again, soaring the skies of Uldris as it travels to pick up to the famed Iron Kings as they begin their quest to "prepare" the world for the future war. Those seeking to clear out Uldris must find a way to destroy this indomitable machine before the Iron kings take notice.

Abilities

Before starting the encounter (entering Hygarlius while it is in the Storm Port station), there are 3/9 (10/25) Uldris Sky Fighters that can be boarded. Starting the encounter takes players to the skies while those within the Sky Fighters start high above the players on the platform. Players in the Sky Fighters must destroy the two Power Engines near the hull of Hygarlius. Storm Fortress Hygarlius does not have an enrage timer on Normal or Raid Finder difficulty.

Hygarlius Platform Deck

  • Inv gizmo khoriumpowercore.png Power Engine Damage Dealer Alert —  On board Hygarlius, there lies 3 Power Engines that contribute to the airship's transportation and assault capabilities. Destroying one Engine damages Hygarlius for 20% of its maximum health (There are a total of 5 Power Engines that must be destroyed to complete the encounter). Destroying an engine also restores the health of the remaining engines on board to full health. LFR: Destroying an engine on board heals other Power Engines on board for only 30% of maximum health.

  • Inv misc enggizmos 01.png Emergency Alarm Important —  When one of the Power Engine reaches 75% health, it triggers an alarm that calls to the airship's defenders over time. Uldris Crew Members, Storm Soldiers, and Lightning Overseers will rush to the top of the deck to deal with the problem, attacking anyone on the platform. The defenders spawn with increasing frequency as more engines are destroyed.
  • Spell arcane arcane04.png Power Spark Heroic Difficulty Healer Alert —  Each time a Power Engine is destroyed on board, a Power Spark is left behind in its place. The spark constantly emits lightning in all directions, dealing 60,000 Nature damage per second. Lasts until the encounter is defeated.

  • Inv gizmo electrifiedether.png Nuclear Reactor Core Heroic Difficulty Damage Dealer Alert Important —  A Nuclear Reactor Core is present at the back of the deck of Hygarlius when the encounter begins. The Reactor starts off inactive and cannot be attacked.

As it strikes the Power Engines, damage dealt to them is increased by 100% for 20 seconds. Used at 75%, 50% and 25% health. Destroying the Reactor Core causes this effect to remain permanently on all affected targets. Uldris defenders that spawn after this effect are not affected.
  • Spell nature groundingtotem.png Activate Reactor Heroic Difficulty Important —  Every 30 seconds, an Uldris Nuclear Engineer spawns and rushes to activate or deactivate the Reactor. Whenever the Reactor becomes active, it is vulnerable to all attacks until it is deactivated. When active, all damage taken by the Reactor is increased by 100%.

Strategy

This fight begins by boarding the airship. Before starting the encounter, those selected to pilot the Sky Fighters must hop into them and then the fight can be started.

Sky Fighters

Those within the Sky Fighters are tasked with destroying the two Power Engines that are on the hull of the boss, while the rest of the raid must destroy the three on board. The Sky Fighter's abilities are as follows:

Backlash Missiles: With a 1-second cooldown, this is the main spam attack of the Sky Fighter until another ability comes off cooldown.

Rocket Volley: This attack damages all enemies in front of the Sky Fighter. This can be used to damage both Power Engines at once.

Titanium Gatling Gun: This attack does a hefty amount of DPS but if used too far away, it loses its chance to hit. Use this when close enough to the target to get the full benefit of this attack.

Fusion Grenade: This attack should be applied first before starting dps on the Power Engine as it increases the damage taken by the target by 100%. Lasting 1 minute with a 20 second cooldown, this debuff can stay on the target almost indefinitely. However, it does not stack with other Sky Fighters' Fusion Grenade.

Leviathan Bomb: If the players in the Sky Fighters kill their Power Engines before the raid can kill the ones on board, they can hover above the raid and use this attack on the adds to increase damage done to them.

When it comes to Dps'ing the Power Engines, start off with Fusion Grenade and keep it up when it comes off cooldown. Use Rocket Volley next and then move in to cast Titanium Gatling Gun, staying close to the Power Engines allows this ability to completely hit and it will do a tremendous amount of damage (especially if all Sky Fighters use this at the same time). Afterwards, spam Backlash Missiles until the other two attacks come off cooldown. Backlash Missiles deal more damage than Rocket Volley so be sure to use it as often as possible. If desired, the Sky Fighter players can just use the Gatling Gun ability whenever it comes off cooldown and return back to spamming Backlash Missiles until Titanium Gatling Gun is ready again.

Hygarlius

As the Sky Fighter players handle the Power Engines on the hull, the airship Hygarlius will fight back against them. It begins with Cannon Burst that deals alot of damage to the Sky Fighter it hits. The targeted player must move out of the way before this attack goes off. Eventually, Hygarlius will target a Sky Fighter with all cannons and if the player is still in the same spot shortly after, Hygarlius will cast Sky Cannon Blast that deals even more damage that only increases as more and more cannons are activated (The Hygarlius Cannons will activate one at time as Power Engines are destroyed and these cannons will cast Cannon Burst on separate timers but will still have to wait 15 seconds before firing again).

In addition to Hygarlius activating more Cannons, it will activate Defense Turrets each time a Power Engine is destroyed. These turrets will cast Ironflame Missile that targets random Sky Fighter players. When the Power Engines on the hull are destroyed, the Sky Fighter players will have to live through 4/8 (10/25) Defense Turrets as the rest of the raid finish off the Power Engines.

Hygarlius Platform Deck

When the raid begins DPS on their first Power Engine, it will cast Emergency Alarm the moment it reaches 75% health. This causes three types of adds to spawn over the duration of the encounter, with the frequency of them spawning increasing as more Engines are destroyed. The adds that spawn (in order) for this encounter are the following:

Uldris Crew Member: These dwarf adds spawn 30 seconds following the Emergency Alarm and every 30 seconds afterwards. They spawn 5 seconds faster for each Power Engine destroyed. They have a weak melee attack and an ability called Charged Weapon that adds a little extra damage to their melee attacks. Killing these mobs as fast as they spawn will give players more time on the Power Engines.

Uldris Storm Soldier: The Storm Soldiers spawn every 45 seconds with the timer reducing by 5 seconds for each Power Engine destroyed. They will cast a permanent Static Burst buff on themselves that adds AoE damage to the raid. They will also spin around and release Lightning Tornadoes through Lightning Whirl. Avoid these tornadoes each time this ability is cast. Players will need to spread out to allow only 1 person to be hit by the Storm Soldier's Chain Lightning.

Uldris Lightning Overseer: These powerhouses spawn every 75 seconds. Only one will spawn each time. They must be killed over the other two adds as they will cast Roar abilities that buff the adds or debuff the raid. They will cast Lightning Cleave that no one but the tanking player should be hit by this attack. However, with each cast of the cleave, the tank takes more damage. After 5 stacks, switch tanks and repeat. The Lightning Overseer will also cast three different Roars.

Commanding Roar that will heal all adds and the Overseer for 10% of their current health and increase their maximum health by 10%. Due to this ability, the Overseer should be focused down fast to prevent this ability from being used too much.

Battle Roar increases damage and size of all adds and the Overseer. This makes the Storm Soldier's Static Burst add more healer pressure. and makes Lightning Cleave highly dangerous on tanks.

Demoralizing Roar that lowers all healing and damage of the raid and increases their cooldown timers. This is yet another reason to nuke the Overseer down fast.

The order that adds should be killed in is: Crew Members until Storm Soldier appears. Then Storm Soldiers followed by Crew Members. When the Overseer spawns. Focus down the Overseer, then the Storm Soldiers, and lastly the Crew Members. Grouping the Crew Members up with the Overseer allows for AoE attacks to hit them which helps towards killing them slowly while the Overseer is out. Storm Soldiers should be nearby but killed after the Overseers. Do not stack the Storm Soldiers with the other mobs as their Lightning Whirl will unnecessarily deal a lot of damage to melee and tanks. After the Overseer, kill the Storm Soldiers and drag the Crew Members towards the Power Engine that is currently next to be attacked. AoE attacks and "cleaving" abilities (like [Pestilence] for DKs, [Blade Flurry] for Rogues, [Impact] for Fire Mages, etc.) should be used when attacking the Power Engine to help bring down the Crew Members faster.

Following this kill order will help clear the dangerous adds out first and leaves the weaker Crew Members out to be killed by AoE damage and spreaded DoTs. If desired, bring all adds to the Power Engine, following the aforementioned kill order while spreading damage to the Power Engine as the adds are being killed. The more Power Engines destroyed, the more often the adds will spawn, giving the encounter a soft enrage where players will eventually become overrun by the stream of adds.

Once all 5 Power Engines are destroyed (three on board and two on the hull), the encounter is won as Hygarlius crashes, burns and explodes while the players safely parachute to the last section of the instance.

Heroic Changes

  • Each Power Engine destroyed leaves a Power Spark in its place that deals AoE damage to the whole raid (excluding Sky Fighters). As more and more Power Engines are destroyed, this damage increases and puts some pressure on healers. Destroyed Power Engines on the hull will also spawn Power Sparks.
  • Starting from the beginning of the encounter, a Nuclear Reactor Core is present at the back of the deck that allows players to attack it which will cause all adds and the Power Engines to take additional damage and leaves a DoT on the raid. If destroyed, the bonus damage debuff remains permanently on current adds and Power Engines.
  • Every 30 seconds of the encounter, an Iron dwarf add will activate or deactivate the Reactor Core. While activated, the Reactor Core takes double damage.
  • The Reactor Core will cast Nuclear Devastation 10 minutes after it becomes activated for the first time which instantly wipes the raid. This serves as an enrage timer for Heroic difficulty.
