Yogg-Saron rises again, his undying essence possessing the imprisoned body of Sargeras. He is the Master of the Burning Legion.

Background

Long has it been said of the Shath'Yar, the Old Gods, that they are beyond life and death. They are outside the cycle of mortality, and even if destroyed their eternal power will continue to endure, a spooling corruption upon the land, growing and festering in the darkness until they are able to reconstitute themselves. Never before in the history of the cosmos has this phenomenon been demonstrated more horrifically than with the Old God Yogg-Saron. Slain in Ulduar, his undying essence polluted the Titan stronghold, until his demented worshipers channeled it into the body of Sargeras, the imprisoned dark titan.

With the devastating invasion of the Legion finally repelled on Azeroth's core and their core itself Etheric Amnion still seething, brave and powerful heroes take the battle to the Legion itself. On the central structure of the World's Heart, the Master of the Legion waits, clad in the nearly indestructible body of Sargeras, Yogg-Saron rises again, his every step a calamity, his every breath a blight upon the world. The resurrected fiend means to kill the world soul of Azeroth and destroying it. Gathering his strength from the Twisting Nether itself, Yogg-Saron bolsters in power by the minute, threatening the very existence of the Twisting Nether. Everything is bearing down on the shoulders of those who seek to eliminate the source of the Legion. Should justice prevail, all of those who fell to the mighty Legion, including the countless planets consumed in the Legion's wake, will finally be avenged and their souls finally at rest. However, if Yogg-Saron is victorious, then everything that has been fought for by all heroes from all times, will be in vain. Doing so will vanquish the Demon Lord once and for all. There will be no turning back or second chances.

Overview

Yogg-Saron is confronted upon the Etheric Amnion, the central structure of the World's Heart that contains the World Soul itself. The corruption of the Void has spread across the structure of the Etheric Amnion, but the World Soul within still shines bright, still resisting the demonic pollution of the Old Gods. The outer edges of the combat area writhe with corruption, making it dangerous to stray far from the safe, central area.

Abilities

The Corruption

The Etheric Amnion is seething with the corruption of Yogg-Saron. The outer edge of the area is completely overtaken with the demonic flames of the Old God, and stepping into the corruption deals massive periodic damage. Throughout the combat, Yogg-Saron will call for Void-born monsters to manifest from the corruption and attack the heroes.

Faceless Defiler — A powerful Faceless One that attacks with powerful melee strikes.
Corruption Shade — Weak void-based entities. When slain they leave behind patches of Corrupt Residue.
- Corrupt Residue — Pools of corruption that damage anyone standing in them.
Void Maw — Void Maws spawn from the Corruption in the form of slow projectiles that land at random areas. The projectiles spawn a Void Maw, a fanged tentacle that cannot be damaged and will despawn after a short time.
- Spew Corruption — The Void Maw slowly rotates while spewing out a cloud of destructive void-slime.
Festering Tendril — Festering Tendrils spawn from the Corruption in the form of seeking projectiles that target random players.
- Festering Grasp — Festering Tendrils will grab nearby targets and prevent them from moving. After a short time, the tendril will detonate and deal lethal damage to the grasped target. Slayting the tendril or using an ability that breaks movement impairing effects will free the grasped target.

Phase One

Yogg-Saron's Abilities

Sin Harvest — Cleaving strike on Yogg-Saron's primary target, dealing massive physical damage to all enemies struck.
Essence of Rot — Unleashes a wave of dark energy in the direction of a random target. The wave increases in size the further it travels.
Call the Corruption — Yogg-Saron will summon swarms of malformed eldritch horrors from the Corruption infesting the area.
Deadlight Oculus — Conjures an untargetable Deadlight Oculus that hovers over a random targets, inflicting increasing damage on them over time.
- Deadlight Glare — The Deadlight Oculus continuously rains down ruinous energy onto the target directly below.
Grand Deadlight Oculus — When three Deadlight Oculi are within 10 yards of each other, they merge into a Grand Deadlight Oculus that hovers over the battlefield. Killable.
- Tears of Dissolution — The Grand Deadlight Oculus deals periodic damage to all targets, increasing in intensity every second.
Portals of Madness — At 85% health, Yogg-Saron will open three Portals of Madness, which each unleash an Unbroken One.
- Unbroken One — Frightful n'raqi-like Void entities.
  - Break — Reduces the armor of the Unbroken One's target. Stacking debuff.
  - Shiver — Cast shortly after the Unbroken One spawns. Curses a random target which causes them a burst of shadow damage whenever they take damage from any other source. This effect leaps to the nearest target within 20 yards when triggered. Each time Shiver leaps, it increases in power. Shiver will be removed if the Unbroken One who cast it is slain.
  - Fury — When an Unbroken One is slain, all surviving Unbroken Ones gain greater damage and attack speed, and their Break ability applies more stacks. This effect stacks.
  - Guardian — The Portal of Madness that the Unbroken One emerged from cannot be used by any of the heroes until all three Unbroken Ones have been slain.
Void Mutation — Yogg-Saron gains this ability at 85% health. Causes the health of all active Unbroken Ones to equalize based on their combined health total. Also empowers all Unbroken Ones with a stacking buff that increases their damage.
Eldritch Barrier — Yogg-Saron gains this ability at 85% health. Renders Yogg-Saron immune to damage.

Phase Two

When the three Unbroken Ones have been slain, the Portals of Madness will become accessible to the heroes, who must now use them to enter the Realm of Madness.

Yogg-Saron's Abilities

Eldritch Barrier — Renders Yogg-Saron immune to damage.
Eldritch Infusion — Yogg-Saron regains all of his health and loses his Eldritch Barrier when this is cast. Also permanently empowers Call the Corruption, causing the creatures spawned to be stronger and more numerous. Yogg-Saron casts this ability whenever the Screaming Soul casts Descent into Madness.

The Screaming Soul of Yogg-Saron

Within the Realm of Madness, the Screaming Soul of Yogg-Saron is visible, a spectral representation of the Old God's true form.

Eldritch Barrier — Renders The Screaming Soul immune to damage.
Tendrils of Madness — Periodically spawns tendrils that attack random targets with bolts of shadow magic. They will stop spawning when the Screaming Soul is stunned.
Deadlight Essence — The Realm of Madness is shrouded in the baleful energy of Yogg-Saron, causing periodic damage that increases over time.
Wave of Madness — Conjures waves of destructive energy that roll across the area, dealing massive damage to those who stand in them. Small gaps in the waves provide safe passage through them.
Titanic Energy — Orbs of Titanic Energy will periodically manifest in random areas. When gathered, the hero collecting it will gain a barrier that prevents them from being affected by Deadlight Essence. If the hero runs into contact with the Screaming Soul, they will infuse it with the Titanic Energy, removing it from the hero. If the Screaming Soul is infused with enough Titanic Energy, it will be stunned and lose its Eldritch Barrier, becoming vulnerable.
Descent into Madness — After recovering from being stunned, the Screaming Soul will begin casting Descent into Madness, which will annihilate all targets in the Realm of Madness when completed.
- Grasp of the Old God — While casting Descent into Madness, the Screaming Soul will conjure barricades of destructive Void energy throughout the area, which will make reaching the Portals of Madness and escaping the Realm of Madness difficult. The barricades will become larger and more elaborate the lower the health of the Screaming Soul.

Phase Three

When the Screaming Soul of Yogg-Saron is reduced to 40% health, it will shatter the Realm of Madness, removing all heroes from the realm safely and spawning alongside Yogg-Saron's physical form. Yogg-Saron will permanently lose the abilities Eldritch Barrier and Call the Corruption. The Screaming Soul will manifest in the center of the area, knocking away any targets that come into close contact with it.

Yogg-Saron's Abilities

Breath of Corruption — This ability is gained at 60% health. Yogg-Saron breathes a column of destructive corruption in the direction of a random target, dealing damage to all targets struck and spawning huge clusters of Void Corruption tendrils.
- Void Corruption — Tendrils spawned by Breath of Corruption. Untargetable. A hero with Titanic Energy can destroy these tendrils by running through them. Each tendril destroyed reduces Titanic Energy.
  - Void Touch — The Void Corruption tendril fixates on a random target and channels this ability, dealing periodic shadow damage until they are destroyed.
Void Flayer — Summons a n'raqi horror from the Void. Void Flayers are stationary and do not move.
- Mindbreak Sphere — Conjures a sphere of energy that travels in the direction of a random target. Anyone that touches the sphere will take a burst of damage, inflict damage on any nearby targets, and become stunned.
- Maddening Impulse — Stacking buff that increases a Void Flayer's casting speed. Gained periodically every time the Void Flayer casts Mindbreak Sphere. At sufficiently high stacks, it will make Mindbreak Sphere an instant-cast spell with no cooldown.

The Screaming Soul

Eldritch Barrier — Renders the Screaming Soul immune to all damage.
Deadlight Fog — Shrouds a portion of the area in deadly corrosive fog, which deals increasing damage to anyone standing in it. Patches of fog will increase in size over time. Fog patches can be reduced in size using Titanic Energy.
Maddening Apparition — The Screaming Soul releases a wave of energy that damages all targets and Terrorizes them if they are facing the Screaming Soul when struck. Terror is similar to Fear, but cannot be removed by magic or abilities and must expire normally.
Deadlight Beams — Gained when Yogg-Saron is at 85% health. The Screaming Soul periodically projects four beams of dark energy that deal lethal damage to those struck by them. The Soul will slowly rotate in a random direction while projecting these beams.
Deadlight Ray — Gained when Yogg-Saron is at 50% health. The Screaming Soul will continuously project small rays of dark energy that damage and reduce the movement speed of those struck by them. Deadlight Rays will slowly sweep the area for a short time while active.
Deadlight Nova — Deals lethal damage to all targets. Does not affect targets standing in Titanic Essence. Causes all Titanic Essence to be removed after use.

Titanic Energy

Titanic Energy — Spheres of Titanic Energy will periodically manifest in random areas. When gathered by a hero, the hero will gain an limited amount of Titanic Energy that protects them from being damage by Deadlight Fog. If the hero runs through patches of Deadlight Fog or clusters of Void Corruption tendrils, they will be removed and the hero will lose Titanic Energy. When all Titanic Energy has been exhausted, it will trigger Titanic Essence.
- Titanic Essence — Conjures a large shield of glowing energy, which destroys any Deadlight Fog patches of Void Corruption tendrils within it. Titanic Essence persists for a short time.

Intermission - The Call of Yogg-Saron

This phase begins when Yogg-Saron's health is reduced to 10%. Yogg-Saron will be transported into the central area and the Screaming Soul will rise above him, and no longer knock back anyone nearby. The Screaming Soul will envelop them both in an Eldritch Barrier. Yogg-Saron will not act directly. The Eldritch Barrier protecting Yogg-Saron must be removed and his health reduced to 0% to end the phase.

The Screaming Soul

Eldritch Barrier — Renders the Screaming Soul immune to all damage.
Descent into Madness — Tthe Screaming Soul will begin casting Descent into Madness as soon as this phase begins, which will annihilate all targets when completed.
Tendrils of Madness — Periodically spawns tendrils that attack random targets with bolts of shadow magic.
Deadlight Essence — The area is shrouded in the baleful energy of Yogg-Saron, causing periodic damage that increases over time.
Wave of Madness — Conjures waves of destructive energy that roll across the area, dealing massive damage to those who stand in them. Small gaps in the waves provide safe passage through them.
Titanic Energy — Orbs of Titanic Energy will periodically manifest in random areas. Final Phase

With Yogg-Saron's physical form destroyed, his spirit has become untethered to reality and is collapsing it upon itself, threatening to drag the heroes into oblivion. Yogg-Saron's undying essence must be purged from existence once and for all.

Reign of Madness — Bombards the area with projectiles of dark magic, dealing damage to any targets struck. Used continously.
Deadlight Fog — Shrouds a portion of the area in deadly corrosive fog, which deals increasing damage to anyone standing in it. Patches of fog will increase in size over time.
Maddening Apparition — The Screaming Soul releases a wave of energy that damages all targets and Terrorizes them if they are facing the Screaming Soul when struck. Terror is similar to Fear, but cannot be removed by magic or abilities and must expire normally.
Call the Corruption — The Screaming Soul will summon swarms of malformed eldritch horrors from the Corruption infesting the area.
- Absolute Corruption — Empowers creatures spawned from the Corruption. Stacking buff applied periodically every second.

Strategy

In Phase One, the heroes must endure Yogg-Saron's assault and reduce his health to 85%, at which point he will use Feldoom Barrier to make himself invulnerable and spawn three Unbroken Ones. Yogg-Saron must be managed while the three Unbroken Ones are dealt with. The outer edge of the area is infested with Yogg-Saron's corruption, making it a lethal hazard that must be avoided. Yogg-Saron will periodically use Call the Corruption to summon a small army of monsters from the corruption.

Once all three Unbroken Ones have been slain, Phase Two begins. The heroes can now use the Portals of Madness to enter the Realm of Madness. The heroes must split their forces in two, with one group remaining to manage Yogg-Saron and the creatures he summons, while the other group enters the Realm of Madness to engage the Screaming Soul of Yogg-Saron. Heroes in the Realm of Madness must use Titanic Energy to remove the Screaming Soul's immunity barrier, at which point the Screaming Soul will begin casting Descent into Madness. The heroes must inflict as much damage as they can before retreating from the Realm of Madness to avoid being destroyed by Descent into Madness. Once the Screaming Soul completes its cast, Yogg-Saron will be restored to 100% health, lose his Eldritch Barrier, and the fight will begin again from Phase One. The heroes must repeat the battle until the health of the Screaming Soul has been reduced to 40%.

Once the Screaming Soul is at 40%, Phase Three begins. The Screaming Soul and Yogg-Saron will appear together, and both their abilities must be managed simultaneously. The Screaming Soul will be invulnerable during this phase, and will knockback any heroes that approach it in melee, forcing the heroes to engage Yogg-Saron in the outer edge of the area, making keeping out of the corruption more difficult. Heroes must use the Titanic Energy that spawns to keep the area clear of danger. As Yogg-Saron's health is reduced, both he and the Screaming Soul will gain more abilities.

When Yogg-Saron's health has been reduced to 10%, the Intermission Phase will begin. Yogg-Saron will be brought to the center of the area with the Screaming Soul hovering above him. Neither enemy is vulnerable to damage, and the Screaming Soul will no longer knock back anyone nearby. Similar to the portion of the encounter in the Realm of Madness, heroes must gather Titanic Energy and use it to break the barrier protecting Yogg-Saron. With the barrier broken, Yogg-Saron's final 10% health must be reduced to 0 to move to the Final Phase of the encounter.

In the Final Phase, the Screaming Soul is the primary target. It's 40% health must be reduced to 0 to end the encounter. The Screaming Soul will use several of its abilities from Phase Three, as well as employing Yogg-Saron's Call the Corruption ability to spawn additional monsters.

Mythic Changes

When enemy targets are infused with Titanic Energy, the energy will decrease slowly over time.
