The Nightmare's Crown is the fourth and final patch for the Emerald Dream Expansion Concept.
Patch X.4 - The Nightmare's Crown
General Overview
- New Zone: Darkholt. Found beyond the Rift of Aln, Darkholt is a perilous sub-dimension of the Emerald Dream stepped in the power of N'Zoth.
- New Storyline: The Nightmare has evolved. In the realm of Darkholt grows the dreaded world tree Nhardrassil, the Nightmare's Crown. This ultimate expression of the Nightmare's power is N'Zoth's masterpiece, a conduit for him to spread his evil not only across Azeroth and the Emerald Dream, but to countless worlds across the cosmos.
- New Raid: Nhardrassil, the Nightmare's Crown. The final conflict with N'Zoth is nigh.
The Story So Far...
The heroes of Azeroth have struggled mightily against the Nightmare and fought to keep their world and the Emerald Dream free of its dark corruption. But the Nightmare's dark master, N'Zoth, has orchestrated every battle of the Nightmare War, and now is poised to claim ultimate victory. All of the innocent souls that the Nightmare has devoured has enabled it to evolve into it's final incarnation, a dark world tree growing within the Rift of Aln, a realm that acts as a nexus between the Emerald Dream and countless worlds across the universe.
Atop the dark world tree, Nhardrassil, N'Zoth's undying essence prepares to infuse itself into the cosmos. If the Old God is successful, the Nightmare will blossom anew on a thousand worlds, plunging countless innocent beings into unending torment.
The growth of Nhardrassil within the Rift of Aln has given rise to a horrific sub-dimension of the Emerald Dream known as Darkholt. This dreadful forested realm is filled with N'Zoth's servants and the corrupting miasma of the Nightmare. Leading N'Zoth's forces is the wild god Vermilanx, who has embraced the dark power of the Nightmare and ascended as the new Nightmare Lord. His kobold children have become mighty and terrible abominations through the power of the Nightmare, and infest both Darkholt and the dark world tree.
New Creatures
- Vermis - Once kobold, these children of Vermilanx have been mutated and evolved by the Nightmare, becoming far more vicious and formidable. Fiendishly clever and cruel, the Vermis swarm in vast numbers throughout Darkholt, making up the rank and file bulk of N'Zoth's armies.
- Curseweald Treefolk - Born of the twisted realm of Darkholt, these treefolk are utterly devoted spawn of the Nightmare.
- Blightstone Deviaan - A faction of Deviaan that have become corrupted by N'Zoth's whispers. To avenge the great defeat of their race and tear down the works of the Titans, these Deviaan have willingly surrendered their inherent resistance to the Nightmare and taken on hideous new corrupted shapes, enhancing their already formiable strength to terrifying levels.
