Fortress Nox is a bastion of the Void, a supporting satellite fortress of the greater stronghold of Darkvault. Built to defend Bysmault, the Void's seat of power in the Voidlands, Fortress Nox is defended by some of the Void's most powerful servants.
Dungeon Journal
A foreboding stronghold formed by the Void, the Fortress of Nox lies in the shattered nightmare-realm of Bysmault, where the Void holds full sway. The voidkin hordes fill the walls of this fortress and flow into the Voidlands, seeking to unmake the last holdout of reality in the heart of endless darkness. The master of the Void's armies, Void Primarch Ahriman, has stationed some of his mightiest servants at this fortress, making it the great shield of the Void in Bysmault.
Background
After the Void made Bysmault their seat of power in the Voidlands, they constructed the immense fortress-complex of Darkvault to defend it against all threats. Darkvault is supported by numerous smaller satellite fortresses, and Fortress Nox is one such stronghold. If the fortress can be taken, it would be the first step towards opening a chink in the Void's armor.
Storyline and Encounters
The adventurers lead a strikeforce of their faction's best troops alongside ethereal auxiliaries to attack Fortress Nox. The goal - to drive the forces of the Void from the stronghold and seize it for the armies of Azeroth as a staging ground for further incursions into Bysmault, the heart of the Void's power in the Voidlands. Using ethereal siege weaponry - machines known as Warp Cannons - the strikeforce blasts down the gates of Fortress Nox, allowing entry. After battling through the forces of the Void lurking within the stronghold, the adventurers confront the Void entity Nox, a powerful incarnation of darkness and servant of Ahriman that is in control of the fortress that bears his name.
Danjet the Ebon, Fist of Ahriman
- Danjet the Ebon yells: I once fought the dark as you did. But in time, I saw the truth. I saw the hungry mouths in the blackness between the stars, and their whispers brought me revelation.
One of the Voidtouched ethereals, Danjet the Ebon was once an agent of the Ethereum who battled furiously against the powers of the Void that had destroyed his homeworld. However, the crawling darkness of the Void soon seeped into his very soul, tainting him from within and ultimately turning him into a weapon for the very force he'd once opposed. A testament to the corrupting power of the Void Lords.
Void Baron Vaalus
- Voidcaller Vaalus yells: Your soul is but a guttering candle in the infinite night. Let it be extinguished, and know peace.
An entity manifested from the Void, Vaalus weaves dark magics and enchantments that can separate the soul from a mortal body, devouring the spark of Light and filling the empty vessel with the dark power of the Void Lords. In this manner, the mortal becomes Voidtouched - their deepest inner essence is devoured and they become nothing more than a puppet for the Void Lords to fight and kill.
Voidreaver Sindrak
- Voidreaver Sindrak yells: Bright lights, flickering in the dark... Feed my hunger...
The Void manifests itself as a vast variety of entities and creatures, ranging from the savage to the intelligent. Voidreavers like Sindrak fall towards the former. A vicious creature of bladed limbs and slavering jaws, Sindrak tears apart the physical forms of mortals so that he can consume the spark of Light within them, growing stronger and spawning more of his kin.
The Voidtouched - Moranni, Febrian, and Aitanis
- Moranni yells: The darkness offers true freedom! A casting off of order and disorder, of material shackles and stifling dimensions!
- Febrian yells: Their voices are but whispers to you. You still hide in the Light. Step into the darkness, and you will hear their glorious voices shout!
- Aitanis yells: The Lords of the Void will not be denied. All who stand against them will perish. It is... inevitable.
The Voidtouched ethereals have been drawn from numerous factions over time. Recently, members of the Ethereum, ethereals who once fought against the Void and sought revenge upon it for the destruction of their homeworld K'aresh, were corrupted by the powers of the Void and became servants of the very darkness they once loathed. Now their hatred has been twisted into insane devotion, and their strongest warriors and spell-casters now serve Ahriman and act as a bulwark against the encroaching mortal forces. The three have been imbued with tremendous power by Nox, the lord of the fortress, and their tripartite bond makes them virtually invulnerable. Only by turning their own powers against one another could these champions of the Voidtouched be defeated.
Nox, Lord of the Night
- Nox yells: Brief mortals of Light and brute matter. Do not fear the darkness. We are past the agency of screams.
A powerful Void Master, the strongest variety of Voidwalker entity. Nox rules the stronghold that bears his name, acting as the guardian of the Darkvault and the rest of Bysmault. Horrifically powerful, Nox is a manifestation of the will of the Void Lords, the malefic incarnations of darkness that dwell in the deepest depths of the Void itself. Their powers reach out and engulf countless worlds, searching for a way to leave the confines of the Void and enter the other realms of the cosmos. Their plans are coming to fruition in the Voidlands. Nox fights to ensure that nothing interferes.
With Nox's defeat, the defenders of Azeroth have successfully captured the Fortress Nox, and established a foothold in Bysmault. With the forces of the Noctarchs driven from the other worldshards, the Void has redoubled its efforts to take the portal to Azeroth, and its forces are growing within Bysmault. An all-out assault upon Or'Damaz is inevitable - the Void will seek to seize the portal to Azeroth beyond the city, and unleash its full fury on Azeroth.
