The Unbound, formerly known as the Stonebound, are one of the three major factions of earthen in Khaz Algar. They live in the countryside of the Isle of Dorn and consider themselves free from their Edicts to the titanic watchers.[1]

The Unbound were originally known as the Stonebound, the largest workforce of the earthen units on the surface levels of Sector AR-938. Charged with carving out the work sites around the sector, the Stonebound led the effort to build the critical structures and the foundation of Dornogal and the Coreway. Under the command of the Stoneward, the Stonebound workforce included laborers, miners, builders, and geomenders that operated within the many crags, quarries, and work sites around the sector.[2]

After thousands of years of building and mining, the Titans remained silent and the Stonebound sought more from life. They began to abandon their edicts and left for the wolds, becoming Unbound. Adelgonn supported their decision, who likewise abandoned her charge as Stoneward, but Stormward Baelgrim was furious with them and revoked the protection of his Stormriders.[3] The Unbound settled in Freywold Village and were able to explore a variety of new directives.

Notes

  • While Merrix declares all earthen as Unbound at the end of the quest N [80] The Edicts; this seems to be more of a symbolic gesture, as there is still a distinction made between the actual Unbound, the Oathsworn, and the Machine Speakers.
    • This distinction is now likely just cultural; as any machine speaker or oathsworn could realistically forgoe their previously assigned duties to do whatever they want now, whereas before it was societially shunned.
