Goblin mounts?

'A pair of mounted goblins can be seen on turtles in Booty Bay.' Really?--SWM2448 23:58, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Turtle and tortoise

I am pretty sure "turtle" and "tortoise" are two different animals.  Rolandius Wc3Knight.gif (talk - contr) 11:28, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Nope, for the most part turtle and tortoise are interchangeable. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 04:00, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Tortoise

"You can assume it is a tortoise if it doesn't appear near a large body of water (lake, river, or sea)." Are there any turtles that don't appear near or in water in game?. Woyr (talk) 19:29, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Tortoises also generally have blunt, club-shaped feet and bent legs instead of straight/directly under the body. Their shells are heavier and dome shaped, compared to the lighter, more streamlined shell of a turtle. Turtles generally have webbed feet with long claws. But WoW is not a biology/ecology sim and there's plenty of mismatched testudines. Also, colloquially, "turtle" is used as a catch-all for turtles, tortoises, and terrapins. --Aquamonkeyeg (talk) 19:53, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
You don't understand, I say that this sentence have no sence since all of the turtles appear near a large body of water so according to that all of them would be turtles not tortoises and that means that mentioning tortoises would be pointless since they not appear in game. Woyr (talk) 19:56, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
Morphologically, pmuch all of them are tortoises regardless of location and name. The only ones that are actually turtles are the sea/giant turtles. But yes, that particular sentence is incorrect. Just because a tortoise lives on land doesn't mean it doesn't live near bodies of water or splash around in them. --Aquamonkeyeg (talk) 01:43, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
No, I think Woyr is asking if any "turtles" in WoW are in an environment that disqualifies them as being aquatic (and hence are probably tortoises). It is not philosophical. True tortoises (still mostly aquatic) were added in MoP as a type of Pandarian dragon turtle, but the sentence is talking about the old model. Look at every turtle in the game, pre- and post-Cataclysm, then contemplate the sentence.--SWM2448 02:09, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
I don't know about all the "turtle" mob locations to answer that question. The only one I can think of was stuck in the Tanaris desert and you help it get to sea. As for the models, maybe I'm missing something or looking at the wrong ones, but all of the "turtles" outside Vash'jir I saw still have the morphology of tortoises. --Aquamonkeyeg (talk) 02:28, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
They look like tortoises, but they are turtles. The idea that some of the turtles are actually tortoises, as implied by their environment, is a statement that is pointless to have if no turtles are in a tortoise-like habitat (this needs to be checked if any action is to be taken).--SWM2448 02:34, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
Ah, okay. I agree that the statement is pointless. Really the only definitive habitat is Vash'jir. Anywhere on land near a lake/river/sea could be suitable for either turtles or tortoises. But WoW isn't an ecology sim. Probably just scrap the sentence and maybe note that most turtle mobs have the physical appearance of tortoises. --Aquamonkeyeg (talk) 03:01, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
