I don't understand how a skeletal wyrm can beat an eredar. Especially if it's an eredar warlock (lv.10 in TFT). How can it be stronger than an Eredar??

OK um... can you solo Sapphiron? I bet he could solo you, though. End of story--Angellic 10:43, 7 December 2006 (EST)

Is there any lore acording to Nightbane? LemonBaby

Some lore on this guy would be uber. How exactly did he transform from Arcanagos into Nightbane? --Adonzo 18:27, 15 February 2007 (EST)

Nightbane's Corruption

When you are on the quest The Master's Terrace, you can see a cut scene in which Medivh confronts Arcanagos and casts some sort of demonic spell on the dragon. Arcanagos promptly flies away and if you watch, the spell corrupts him into Nightbane. Arathinir

Pics or it didn't happen :p --Zealtalkcontrweb 20:28, 4 March 2007 (EST)

The quest takes place inside the Karazhan instance, and in order to view this sequence you have to have killed past the Shade of Aran or thereabouts to access it. My guild has all completed the quest, so when we add a member I'll do my best about pics. --Arathinir

The quest takes place at the Master's Terrace which is very close to the side entrance of Karazhan. To physically go there, the opera event must be completed. The quest is part of the Medivh's journal quest line, and the previous step requires killing the Shade of Aran. From him you loot the Journal, and are sent to read from it at the Master's Terrace. You then witness a small cutscene where Arcanagos confronts Medivh. I uploaded a screenie of the start of the scene at http://www.wowwiki.com/Image:Arcanagos.jpg --SakkuraBalnazzar

Does everyone in the raid need to have completed the quest to summon Nightbane, or just one person? By the sound of it, just one. If someone who knows for sure could edit the main article, that would be great. --Docjowles

Tremor totem

Would Shaman Tremor Totem help in this fight? Or would it be better using some other earth totem?

We have found it easier just to out range it (as a healer). The range of the fear seems to be somewhere between 35-38 yards, just make sure your tank doesn't miss a fear or bye bye healers. Steelclash 15:08, 23 April 2007 (EDT)
Nightbane runs fast!!! steelclash is not kidding :P he can be near your healers in less than a second if your tank misses the rage User:CrazyJack/Sig 04:07, 24 April 2007 (EDT)

Difficulty overrated?

I would disagree with Nightbane being more difficult than Prince Malchezaar. Admittedly, we've only killed Nightbane twice, but we didn't spend two nights wiping on him like we did on Malchezaar (took three tries on Nightbane first kill, two on our second with a few new people), and it was evident from the first try that he was, in fact, not very hard at all (at least to our group composition). As far as pure healing power (healing per second) goes three good healers are needed (most of ours have the top gear and enchants that heroics and most of Karazhan has to offer), I don't really know if mana is an issue needing a fourth healer or extra innervate (we had the latter from a feral druid).

I think the difficulty assessment is simply just out-dated, maybe in the past Nightbane was more difficult, but this certainly doesn't seem to be the case with present WoW. In my opinion Nightbane isn't even the second most difficult in Karazhan, Illhoof is more demanding on group setup, Aran can be screwed up more easily by clueless newcomers, Netherspite is more tactically demanding, and Malchezaar can whack your tank into pieces more easily in his phase 2 (and Malchezaar is also more unpredictable due to the abyssals). If you follow the Nightbane tactics the only way to easily screw up is by a) not following them correctly (and the tactics aren't that hard, really) b) dps overaggro during land phases resulting in death (Nightbane moves incredibly fast to whack you if you aggro) c) dying during airphase to smoking blasts (the skeletons are not that hard to keep under control, tanking and snaring works on the skeletons fine). Of course, gear might be an issue but gear is certainly on issue on Malchezaar and many other fights.

As far as bellowing roar goes, on our second kill we used a feral druid as a tank. First try we had a shaman with tremor there, but when we noticed that Nightbane kept whacking the druid despite her being feared with me (a warrior) being immune right next to Nightbane and whacking him and all the ranged being out of range of the fear, we just skipped the tremor for second try (which was a successfull kill). There could be some threat issue (large enough gap in threat and Nightbane follows the tank) but I can't tell without more attempts and kills.

As far as seeing where Charred Earth is placed, note that turning Spell Detail Level (in Graphics options) to maximum makes it a lot easier to see, at lowest all you see is some faint gray smoke floating up which is hard to notice, at max spell detail level the Charred Earth looks more like a blazing inferno on the ground, making it very obvious to see. --Tahlimai 14:22, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Whether or not Nightbane is harder than the Prince depends on the itemization of your raid and its class composition. Where the difficulty of Nightbane scales perfectly with your equipment and your capability to handle his damage bursts, the Prince will always remain a fight based on chance even for best equipped raids. All your pretty equipment is of no use to you if you're enfeebled down to 1 HP and got nowhere to run from the nether blast because the damn infernals got you cornered down. Lore error

Nightbane is not something Medivh created, Medivh simply killed Arcanagos using a spell containing Medivh's very own essence and left it at that. It is the Violet Eye that sets the player to bring Arcanagos back to life in order to obtain Medivh's essence from the lively remains in a form that is not devoid of life. --Tahlimai 09:42, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Strategy section

Started working on it, but RL calls. Fixed the spelling and grammatical errors for the most part, if someone else doesn't get to it first, I'll flesh out the roles a bit more. Rodanu 20:51, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Notes - a strategy has been discussed...

Notes

A strategy has been suggested of having a DPS warrior stance dancing and then taking hits instead of the main tank, if the warrior is less geared that the other MT, this has not been tested however, and is most likely unneeded.

There's no reference for this, anyone wish to come forward and take credit or put more detail? Else I'll probably remove, as its an awful good way for an unshielded (low armor) DPS warrior to go splat...Rodanu 02:10, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Phase Terminology

I think the Phase 1, Phase 2 language is a bit confusing, since NB alternates back and forth between the two phases. I've updated the page to use Ground Phase and Flight Phase. --MarcBrooks 17:16, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Rain of Bones

I've seen conflicting reports about the Rain of Bones. The article states that the Rain of Bones targets where Nightbane's target was standing at the time of cast, which would make it akin to Void Reaver's Arcane Orb. However, WoWHead states that Rain of Bones follows the person being targeted, much like a channeled spell would. Which is correct? Roncli 21:41, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Rain of Bones used to follow whoever got initially hit with it. Some patch or another changed it so that it just stays wherever it started. Kathucka 18:17, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Smoking Blast Targeting

I've determined that Smoking Blast doesn't necessarily hit whoever is highest on healing aggro. It simply hits whoever generates the most threat after Nightbane takes off. Generally, though, the healer generates the most threat on Nightbane, as the tanks and damage-dealers are hitting skeletons.

As a hunter, I can easily draw this threat and get hit with Smoking Blast. All I have to do is shoot Nightbane. A shaman could do the same thing with shocks, and that would be a better choice, since shamans have shields and therefore more armor. In theory, a warrior tank could also shoot to do this. A bear tank would have more trouble.

There's clearly a full threat wipe when Nightbane takes off. I'm not sure what the story is when he lands, as the tank never seems to have trouble picking him up again. It may be that he has a separate airborne and terrestrial threat list, or it may be another wipe as he lands. I'm pretty sure that KLH Threat Meter doesn't account properly for it.

Gold Dropped

The page currently lists his wealth as 144g. That seems very hight to me and not what I have experienced. The 38g ish number on wowhead seems more accurate. Thoughts? --ObiChad 20:38, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Suggested Move

I suggest moving this page to Nightbane, and the existing page to Nightbane (disambiguation), based on the fact that in almost all cases, people looking for Nightbane will be looking for this page rather than the other two. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 01:24, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Race

According with wowhead (link), Nightbane shares the model with Northrend Emberwyrms so maybe he could be tagged as one of them. --Killogwil (talk) 02:15, October 16, 2010 (UTC)

Sharing a model doesn't mean they're the same. Teribus the Cursed has the same model as Sapphiron, but he's not a frost wyrm. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 02:26, October 16, 2010 (UTC)
Even in the Emberwyrm article is suggested the relation between Nightbane and the race. Maybe it could be noted under speculation. Btw, seems Teribus and Sappphiron don't share the same model anymore. --Killogwil (talk) 03:43, October 16, 2010 (UTC)
There really isn't any relationship, and the articles should probably be changed to remove that. Nightbane is a special, unique type of undead dragon created by a very specific spell cast by the most powerful mage on Azeroth. Emberywrms are merely reanimated red dragons. As for Teribus, where are you getting that they don't share a model from? -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 03:47, October 16, 2010 (UTC)
Just seen in the Sappiron "Same model as" section in wowhead (link). Maybe its skin was changed with the Wotlk expansion. --Killogwil (talk) 04:01, October 16, 2010 (UTC)
