Old discussion

It might be worth noting the Swirling Maestrom in the middle of the bay in Azshara. From reading the lore which came in the Warcraft III manual, this maestrom is the first that came to mind because it was spawned when Queen Azshara was trying to open the Moonwell so Sargeras could come through. It's possible, though, that this is a spawn of the big one in the middle of the map. Any thoughts? Schmidt 17:42, 2 January 2007 (EST)

The Maelstrom was there before the night elves found it. The titians created it, not Queen Azshara. But it is true that she tried to use it to summon Sergeras, which she failed in. And yes, I've seen the Maelstrom in the middle of the bay in Azshara (the zone), but no worries, that is only a pile of dibris, still I am curious about it's name. Oh well, the only way a new Well of Eternity could be created would be by the four vials from the origonal that Illidan, Kael and Vashj now own. Or if someone took some of the water from the new Well of Eternity under Nordrassil and porred that water in some normal water. The last way a Well of Eternity could be created is if Anveena decided so. I mean, she is the Sunwell itself, and the Sunwell was created by a vial of water from the Well of Eternity... -iocaine 12:34, April 23, 2007
No, the Maelstrom was created when the Well of Eternity was destroyed following Queen Azshara's attempt at turning it into a portal for the Burning Legion. The surface of the Well itself was calm and unmarred. - Dark T Zeratul 04:14, 23 April 2007 (EDT)
The one in Azshara is used to summon Maws for the AQ gate quest chain.--SWM2448 16:06, 23 April 2007 (EDT)
Should this not be in the Lore Zones category, rather than the Closed Zones, category, as it has no current presence in WoW? I have changed the categories on a couple of tiny articles in that way, but am beginning to wonder if i should after seeing this here. --Corrodias 21:18, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Somewhat answering my own question, i re-read the Closed Zones article. In its description of Lore Zones, it includes things that do not appear on the world map in the game, which i suppose the Maelstrom does. Still, seeing as how it isn't known to exist in any form, reachable by players or otherwise, i don't feel it fits this category well. Then again, i'm new here, so i'd rather ask before doing any more. --Corrodias 21:23, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Maelstrom weak?

I was wondering how does anything even live within the Maelstorm, like the naga and makrura, if it is a huge storm with the power to slowly pull islands toward it?  Rolandius Wc3Knight.gif (talk - contr) 01:20, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

By the way, why didn't they call it the Maelstorm instead of the Maelstrom?  Rolandius Wc3Knight.gif (talk - contr) 01:21, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

A) Roland, you've been warned about non-editorial discussions. 2) The Naga live on the lip of the rift, which lies beneath the Maelstrom's Eye (acts in the same way as the eye of a hurricane. Possible Expansion?

Should we put somewhere on here that this area was rumored to be part of an upcoming expansion? --Varteras (talk) 14:03, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Every area that exists in lore and doesn't yet exist in-game is rumored to be part of an upcoming expansion. The Maelstrom is far from unique in this regard, nor is there any evidence that would make it more likely than any other area. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 20:43, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
While I certainly agree that every area that does not yet exist in-game is rumored to become so at some point, this area in particular has seen a rather heavy amount of speculation. There is already mention of the Emerald Dream in its section being rumored as a large part of a future expansion. Infact, both the Emerald Dream and the Maelstrom have been the two areas that have been the most heavily rumored to be featured in an upcoming expansion, eventhough Blizzard has said themselves that they have plans for the Emerald Dream... however, what those plans are still continue to be speculated. Seems a little inconsistent to mention this in an article for one yet not for the other. I am not recommending such rumors to be placed in a subsection of this article because I somehow believe them to make the Maelstrom unique, but that there has been such a heavy amount of speculation for it and there are many other areas in the Warcraft universe that have been speculated far less than the Maelstrom and yet have had speculation of their possible inclusion posted.--Varteras (talk) 11:29, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
I have heard Kul Tiras, Grim Batol, Pandaria, Gilneas, and the Great Sea being in an upcoming expansion all over the place. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 11:50, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
The difference is that we know for a fact that Blizzard has been working on the Emerald Dream (or at least was at one point). While there is a considerable amount of speculation around a potential Great Sea expansion, in the end it's just that: speculation, with barely a shred of concrete evidence backing it up. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 23:55, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Continents Location

During the Sundering, could be possible the pieces of land that remained (East Kingdoms, Kalimdor and Northrend) was pushed away from the middle (The Rift)? This would explain the ruins of Zin-Azshari on Azshara's coast. Pudim17 (talk - contr) 20:00, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Maelstrom inhabitants

In TotA is mentioned, that shamans has huts in Maelstrom, so I think we should add some races who use shamanism (all is writen in TotA).

Blood Sea

Can anyone find the source for the Blood Sea region? It might be in the RPG, but I can't find the book it is in. Don't comment if you just don't know.--SWM2448 01:08, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

It hasn't been sourced since the page for Blood Sea was created back in 2008, the page was almost deleted, but was turned into a redirect instead. The creator of the page even stated it was the Hypothetically name of it. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 02:51, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
