Killable?

Does anyone know if this is the end of one of my favourite characters in the WarCraft universe? I do think it is note-worthy for the article as well.--Aldrius 01:49, 2 September 2006 (EDT)

I've read that the quest text from  [The Phylactery of Kel'Thuzad] states that you know you should destroy it to kill Kel'Thuzad permenantly, but instead deliver it to someone at Light's Hope Chapel for a reward, leaving open the possibility he will return.--Aeleas 10:35, 2 September 2006 (EDT)
And one of his quotes says he'll return with "unimaginable power." If he does... awesome. If not, then it is sad. Naisha got a better death, heh, at least she wasn't murdered by 40 random nameless adventurers. Ambelen 10:14, 8 September 2006 (EDT)
Oh this is too funny...I just looked at thottbot for the quest "The Fall of Kel'thuzad" and here is what it says:
The phylactery is all that remains of the master of Naxxramas. Your better judgment dictates that you destroy the phylactery, preventing the lich from ever reforming. Thankfully, you seldom listen to that internal voice of reason.Someone at Light's Hope will pay you hugely for this artifact. Who cares if Kel'Thuzad regenerates to full power?
YEAH, who cares if one of the most evil and dangerous mofos in the history of Azeroth comes back and kills and enslaves thousands more! I wanna get PAID! And so does EVERYBODY ELSE who ever winds up fighting him, not one altruistic or noble person in the bunch! ROFLMAO
This bodes well for Illidan's survival, and at this point in time he still doesn't appear to be a truly evil villain as a tragic figure or anti-hero. Of course, it's anybody's guess what will be revealed upon the release of the expansion, or sooner....--Illidan Rocks 12:37, 29 October 2006 (EST)

Well, Illidan isn't a lich, so his survival is going to be a bit different. Anyway, they can't let you kill off Kel'Thuzad just yet- they need something a little more dramatic. Looks like the Argent Dawn need to work a bit on their recruitment spiel. --Ragestorm 09:27, 30 October 2006 (EST)

Kel'Thuzad's new story

Hmm, he seems not to have been bad from the beginning, only a scientist with bad habits.. Unlike I thought. Love Blizzard for new lore ^^ Tinkerer 21:36, 27 April 2006, (GMT +1)

(This should probably go in Talk:Kel'Thuzad/Analysis... But I'm lazy.)
I disagree. I think Metzen forgot how manipulative Kel'Thuzad was. He understood the nature of power much more than the character in their story. If you think about it, necromancy is similar to puppetry. You infuse an inanimate object with your will. By the time he committed himself to the Lich King's service, he had to have been completely consumed by the notion of power over others, seeing it not like Gul'dan did, as purely physical, but as something much more complex and nuanced, and finding it beautiful. When Kel'Thuzad acted as the Lich King's prophet amongst the people, he did the same thing: infused people with the Lich King's will. His followers were willing to die for the Lich King. You can only create followers like that through the most intense type of manipulation. Kel'Thuzad was second in command to the master of mind control. He learned from the best, but he had to have an interest in the subject beforehand. Blizzard doesn't give Kel'Thuzad's evilness enough credit.
But I'm biased. He is my favorite Warcraft character. User:Montag/sig 02:34, 7 November 2006 (EST)

Kel'Thuzad's Untold Stories

Is there more information on Kel'Thuzad's backstory present in WoW itself? For instance, I believe the Barov family of Scholomance served as one of his chief contributors when he initally formed the Cult of the Damned. (This is based mostly on NPC interaction and quest texts.) His trip to Northrend is also something of an untouched subject, and I'm curious if there's any information elsewhere in the books or the game. -- Montag 17:36, 19 Feb 2006 (EST)

Looks like Blizzard finally told it. ::Sticks tongue out at Blizzard.:: User:Montag/sig 02:35, 7 November 2006 (EST)

Cleanup

This article consists almost entirely of copied source text, and consequently is overly long (it breaks the 32kb limit) and difficult to browse. It could definitely use some editing into a much more concise form.--Aeleas 16:42, 29 April 2006 (EDT)

moved the The Road to Damnation to its own page Rumda

Moved all the rest to Kel'Thuzad Background, so there is room for his strategy, when naxxramas comes. CJ 09:04, 15 May 2006 (EDT)

Anyone care to tackle the issue of how to deal with Kel'Thuzad Background and Kel'Thuzad (Warcraft III)? --Ragestorm 16:03, 27 June 2006 (EDT)

Lack of info

Lack of strategy info on him it seems. Nobody able to defeat him yet or something? Pzychotix 03:02, 18 July 2006 (EDT)

Erm... I don't think anybody has even beaten the 4 Horsemen yet. And then there's still Sapphiron to get through. Nobody has even SEEN Kel'Thuzad yet, much less killed him. --Adonzo 17:40, 18 July 2006 (EDT)
Hahah, my bad. Right now my char isn't even into raiding yet, so I really don't keep track of the raid progression on my server. I just assumed that since it was the intarwebz, that everything would've been done in 10 secs. Pzychotix 19:46, 18 July 2006 (EDT)

Speculations

It was said that alot of monsters from all four wings spawn around Kel'Thuzad which may lead me to the assumption that this is like Nefarians phase 1 where the raid has to kill a certain ammount of enemies before actual be able to fight Nefarian. --Thundor 08:29, 22 August 2006 (EDT)

This has proven to be true, search kel'thuzad on google video, it has a few shots of lone (suicidal) people triggering the boss

Strategy

Nihilum has released a video showing a significant portion of the encounter. It appers that MCed players *are* polyable (maybe they're immune at first?).

Loot Table PoV

I deleted the PoV descriptions of all his items as the "best" of their kind. For one thing, what is even meant by "best" is very subjective--e.g. the staff off of Kel'Thuzad, Soulseeker, has a large portion of its budget devoted to spell penetration, a stat that most regard as completely useless in PvE and of only limited utility in PvP. For another, there is significant controversy as to whether some items on KT's loot table are plainly inferior to alternatives from lower-end instances--this is particularly apparent with the argument that Gem of Trapped Innocents is significantly under-budget and possibly even inferior to Amulet of Vek'nilash from AQ40. It isn't this wiki's place to make subjective judgments about what items are the "best." Eorl 02:54, 11 October 2006 (EDT)

Death and Decay

We have no information on the damage, and how do we trigger this ability which is REALLY REALLY DEADLY! If you don't trust me, watch this video from Death and Taxes : [1] I'd like an answer plz...---Firelord- 12:33, 26 November 2006 (EST)

Evil?

IS he really evil? Not really. I dun think he is corrupted too. Maybe when he was a human. But not now. The lich king gives him the respect he deserves. He was happy to serve Arthas. Hes loyal.

Well, he might not have been evil at all, but he was seduced and corrupted by Lich King's unholy power... So Kel'Thuzad, being now a Lich, even with his former mind, is now under control of his new master. Lich King respects him because thanks to Kel'Thuzad the Cult of the Damned and the whole Scourge started in the first place - and he's now his greatest general. His mind is completely corrupted, and he follows only one rule now - to serve the Scourge well. He's Lich King's pawn, with just a bit greater status to get another chance if he would fail - but still an undead servant. User:Sul'jin/Sig 06:30, 18 January 2007 (EST)

page naming

im wondering why it was chosen to have the main link Kel'Thuzad direct the user to the tactics over to :

instead of to :

seems a bit of a discussion point to me, as all other bosses have their tactics pages as their "main" page. but then, not all bosses have such a big page either. (blame the war3 junkies i guess. User:CrazyJack/Sig 07:19, 18 January 2007 (EST)

Unlike most bosses, Kel'Thuzad has detailed lore avaliable. Onyxia, Hakkar and Nefarian have limited lore. We're planning to do the same for Illidan. Call it our subtle resistance to those players foolish enough to disregard lore. --Ragestorm (talk · contr) 08:27, 18 January 2007 (EST)

Mindless?

I need an answer. is Kel'Thuzad mindless. All undead serve him, with only enough will and sentiency (?) to know what's happening. Is he a puppet physically and mentally, or does he control everything he does? Like, undead appear that they can talk and think and move, but they hear the lich king's name every second, and I still don't get the control part, but Arthas and KT...my main questions...any1 able to answer?

Kel'thuzad is definitely not mindless. He's bound to Arthas's will and unable to defy him, but he is thinking and acting for himself. -- Dark T Zeratul 01:30, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Voice actor

Kel'Thuzad's voice is VERY different in WOTLK. I wonder why they changed it it was one of the best voices in the game. -- Nitros14 6:35, 11 November 2008 (PST)

he still has "AAAAGHHH!... Do not rejoice... your victory is a hollow one... for I shall return with powers beyond your imagining!" as death quote? if so, i lol and wait for CoA: kelthuzards return part 3...Noobi666 (talk) 15:40, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

After listening through it, the only part of Michael McConnohie's original voice work that remained in the new Naxxramas is the maniacal laughter when he kills somebody. --Joshmaul (talk) 20:10, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Single Target Frostbolt

Interestingly there's an entry on wowhead for a 20,000 damage frostbolt, but in-game the 25-man version of Kel'Thuzad hits for about 28,000 with frostbolts. Curious discrepancy. -- Nitros14 12:55, 13 December 2008 (PST)

Mana detonation

I'm fairly certain it drains mana as well. Mkdwtalk 04:40, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
