Talk:Emerald Dream/Analysis

The Emerald Dream was last improved in the 1.5.0 patch (along with Battlegrounds). However, Blizzard hasn't worked on it since 1.3.0 before that. It is possible that they are just not pushing their updates/changes into the patches, as people are viewing them with map viewers and posting the contents to spoiler sites.

Instance, Zone, or what?

"The level designers are doing a killer job." Well, since the level designers are working on it and not the zone designers, that makes me think it's an instance... "The zone is massive and beautiful. " Well, that changes my mind. :) --Xmuskrat 13:16, 16 Jan 2006 (EST)

Wailing Caverns

Well we do know that Naralex was connected to the Emerald Dream and it somehow transformed the Wailing Caverns. --Terrybader 13:12, 15 Feb 2006 (EST)

That would probably be The Nightmare --Brommon 14:08, 23 May 2006 (EDT)

As of now druids cannot reach there

We (Druids) cannot simply "go to sleep" and end up in the Emerald Dream, in fact the only thing we can do is teleport to Moonglade... What anyone can do is travel to Ashenvale and you can see a portal which just might be the portal to the Emerald Dream... Don't run for it though, as you should know if you read the Wiki article there are Dragons guarding it; but if you do feel like a noob and go running through the dragons naked, the portal takes you nowhere besides behind it.

The better place to go is Duskwood. There is a portal there that has no elites except for the dragon, and it only is there for a short time before despawning each week. SDK 01:55, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Expansion speculation

The Emerald Dream is possibly the top candidate to become WoW's next expansion. The furbolgs are a very strong candidate for the Alliance race, and it's possible that when the first expansion trailer comes that the Alliance race will be featured, but that the Horde race will not. This will create an opposite effect of what's happened with BC, where all the speculation was revolving around the Alliance race. Personally I think that the Horde race could be something indigenous from the Dream, rather than a race from Azeroth. It could be a race with connections to the Earthmother and the tauren, which would explain their joining the Horde. It could possibly be a smaller race, similar to a gnome or goblin, to create a larger variety in the Horde, but something druid-oriented. Omg! Leprechauns! I'd love to see this released. Let's hope they're still working on it and haven't scrapped the idea. Privatekey 12:43, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
I was running around Feralas last night, leveling my driud, and noticed that the Dragonkin up in Oneiros are now level 61 elites. Whilst I haven't visited these guys since BC was released, I did find it odd that they were (a) level 61 (b) still elite even post 2.3 patch where most world elites had their elite label stripped. Sure, the cliff elementals nearby were still elite, but it did kinda make me wonder if their continuing elite status was an oversight or signs of things to come. 19:45, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

This will definitely become a future expansion because for one Malfurion is trapped in it and blizzard so far hasn't said anything about it. And second what about the nightmare? That must be somehow defeated it just cant be left alone.User:Magnuis2020/sig Mar, 11 2008

I think that an expansion dealing with the Emerald Dream would be an awesome thing, and it's not just because I have a Druid. Even though there would be a lot more for Druids in the Dream (seeing as how they're pretty much the only ones who can get in there), there would also be a lot of things that might be good for other classes (like some uber-weapon Warriors can use, or a Trinket that jacks up the power of a Mage); they'd just be more "natural" than the stuff you find around Azeroth or the Outlands, since the Emerald Dream is what Azeroth would be like if the races hadn't changed it. Plus, it would finally give a purpose to those portals that the Dragons guard.

The Emerald Dream idea was announced as content back before BC came out, so either Blizzard is still working on it, or they trashed the idea.
As for the comment about Leprechauns: We already have Gnomes, do we really need ANOTHER race like that? Felindre
My only question is, how would we be able to do quests in the Dream? We would need quest hubs and towns to act as safe places, but I'm pretty sure Ysera wouldn't let the mortal races build towns in the Dream. :o Vandaeni 21:27 EST, 9/27/08

Swirls

If the Emerald Dream is supposed to be Azeroth untouched by mortals, why does it look like something from the 1971 version of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory? I know it's supposed to be a dreamy "world of pure imagination" but it seems a bit... unearthly to be frank. Food for thought. ^^ --User:Vorbis/Sig

What? have you seen it in game? Its model looks nothing like Willy Wonka. Its quite a beautiful looking work of art IMO and it needs to be released soon so others can behold in all its beauty Ibage Aug, 16 2007

Old Emerald Dream Data

Through the use of WoW Map Viewer, I found stuff that I'm sure has been found by now. Weird stuff... Designers notes and whatnot. And two named sub-zones...

  • Emerald Forest
  • The Verdant Fields

Just thought I'd mention this and see if I can get someone to give me some lore on these places. ~ Doc Lithius [U|T|C] 15:48, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

The Verdant Field is a field, by the look of it, its gripped by the nightmare since the sky is black and yellowish The Emerald Forest seems sane and beautiful

There appeared to be two or so subzones, or something. As Gurulas said, there's a "Verdant Field" and an "Emerald Forest". Still, there are four Stargate things leading to it on Azeroth, and four zone-looking things on the "map"... Northwest is nothing but spooky semi-textured mountain stuff and this constipated-looking statue buried chest-down in the dreamdirt. Since the northwestern portal is in Ashenvale it probably has to do with Felwood, or Hyjal, or Moonglade, or that one dead Old God. Southwest is a weird green field with Outlandish plants. Probably has something to do with Feralas or Desolace or Dire Maul, but since I don't like those zones and haven't visited them I wouldn't know. Southeast is like southwest, but with plants that aren't as tainted looking. Might have something to do with Duskwood and the zombie apocalypse problems they're having. Northeast is pretty, as Gurulas described. Might have something to do with the Plaguelands.

Now for screenshots. I uploaded them to my Photobucket account since you guys probably don't need screenshots of an undeveloped zone wasting your space.

The notes read ( top left to right ): SF01 PF03 PFoZ Droop 2 Drip 2 BF3 BFI ( omg fbi ) PF01 OE2 OFI Droop1 Drip 1 BF2 The second picture with the notes appears to be the plants' model names. I came to this conclusion after seeing "Droop1/Droop2" next to a droopy plant, and "Drip 1/Drip 2" next to a drippy plant.

Looks like we can't complain much about this zone, since they could just give us this. The entire place reminds me of my nightmares.  :/ --Super Bhaal 07:40, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

You didn't find the dreamcatchers during your search? ;) Oh nevermind I see a couple.Baggins 07:44, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Dreamcatchers? Do you mean those things in the second statue picture? Didn't even think to look. :D --Super Bhaal 07:52, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Yep. I think there are some bigger oens too, IIRC.Baggins 07:55, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Take a look, sorry for the bad quality, just made it so you could see how it is ingame ps: its Gurluas not Gurulas --Gurluas 08:18, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, I noticed the Alliance shield next to the high elf. Did you doctor these images, or...where did they come from? And why do high and blood elves do the splits whenever they mount? --Super Bhaal 08:39, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
She has an alliance logo because she is alliance, High Elves aint horde...and i took em on a test server.--Gurluas 08:41, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
You mean an emulated server. And I didn't need screenshots. =P I needed lore information. But for everyone who had no bloody idea as to what I was on about, this is probably good stuff. XD ~ Doc Lithius [U|T|C] 13:09, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
It's something you shouldn't look too into as that Emerald Dream is the one they scrapped for larger grander plans aka a entire expansion. Leviathon 13:13, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
Gurluas> I'll remember to spell your name right next time, but you're forgetting that a number of high elves have seceded from both the Alliance ( not talking about blood elves, just independents. ).

Lithius> I saw that you wanted lore in the middle of my screenshotting.  :/ Shadows & Light had descriptions of the Eye of Ysera and the Nightmare, but nothing else. The "explanations" I supplied were nothing but conjecture, and as Leviathon said they shouldn't be taken too seriously since that all got scrapped. I'm guessing the Emerald Dream to be seen in the one expansion/patch will either be a mirror of Azeroth as it is now or a mirror of it as it was before the Sundering. --Super Bhaal 07:37, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Yeah but world of warcraft requires either: horde or alliance...even private servers. and its a shame its scrapped, i really like their work.--Gurluas 17:00, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

WotLK

In the interview says "some kind of Archdruid quest directly connected to Malfurion Stormrage" not "Archdruid Hero Class related quest", c'mon ppl, ur are forcing too much.

The 3 initial Hero Classes was the DK (released), Necromancer (merged with the DK) and the Runemaster. If we gonna see a new hero class, it's almost sure it will be the Runemaster, the new Great Tree has a lot of runes in it.

Maybe, the 3.2 surprise will be the Emerald Dream raid, cuz i don't think the Emerald Dream is big enough to be an entire expansion and the quests are beggining to get deep in it's lore. Pudim17 (talk - contr) 12:12, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

There are five gates to the ED in Azeroth. Five gates = five zones. Pretty much the perfect size for an expansion, actually.Metalmunki (talk) 03:03, November 7, 2009 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure the 3.2 surprise is an Azjol-Nerub raid starring Anub'arak, at least, that's what I hear on the rumor mill. Chances are the Emerald Dream/Nightmare will be within the next couple expansions (right now apparently it's being pointed towards Great Sea as the top competitor for next expac.) User:Ohten
