Article Name

Project:NAME here says that articles should be named like 'appeared in the text', so I presume that means in-game. In-game, this place is called The Barrens, not Barrens. --Tinkerer 04:58, 24 October 2006 (EDT)

The policy stating that the definite article ("the") should be included only "when it would be capitalized if it appeared in text" is taken from Wikipedia[1], where it is expressed a little clearer by referring to "running text". Obviously whenever a term is written down it is in some sense "in text", but the policy refers to when the term is used in normal, full-sentence text (e.g. "I could send you out to the Barrens to hunt kodo."[2])
The distinction aims to keep the definite article only for things such as the title of a book, where the definite article is part of the official title, and it would be incorrect to omit it; Last Guardian is not the name of a Warcraft novel, while The Last Guardian is. With something like the Barrens, the fact that the definite article isn't capitalized in running text indicates it is not part of the official title, and in fact can be omitted entirely in some uses. ("Kalimdor's sprawling Barrens are home to a wide variety of wildlife.") Blizzard is very inconsistent when they display the "the"s and when the exclude them. For example, the Crossroads is referred to in quests as "the Crossroads", appears on the Barrens map as "Crossroads", on the flight point map as "Crossroads, The Barrens", and is labeled "The Crossroads" when you actually enter it.--Aeleas 13:45, 24 October 2006 (EDT)
Hmm, fair enough. That clears things up. So it's mostly Blizzard's fault these things are inconsistent - and thus we keep the "the"s away. Thanks :-) --Tinkerer 03:38, 25 October 2006 (EDT)

Barrens Chat

Let's keep the topic free from offensive and gratuitous language. I will remove the crude comment again. Do not bring it back. ---- Varghedin.jpg Varghedin  talk / contribs 06:29, 1 February 2007 (EST)

Oases in Barrens

Just a guess, but it seems likely that the three oases in the barrens zone are there from the 2nd orc mission in Reign of Chaos, where Thrall escorts the kodo caravan to three oases to rest. I'm not sure whether this is important enough to add to the article or not.Minionman 14:16, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

honestly i would even if it gets removed. its important to me anyway. Ramtak (talk) 23:51, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Northwatch Hold Micro Dungeon?

Is Northwatch Hold really a micro dungeon? I understood that that term applied to elite areas, which I do not believe Northwatch is. Anyone know for sure? --Jiyambi t || c 17:01, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

I don't know officially but in my terms a micro dungeon is an ourdoor place with an overwhelmingly amount of mobs for a single person about the same level of the mobs itself. Such places considered a micro dungeon under my criteria is Scourgeholme, Bael Modan for the Horde, so I don't know officially if it is a micro dungeon. It may have been elite at one point, but I do not know for sure.--SWM2448 20:46, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Its not really a micro-dungeon or dungeon for that matter. its just a place with alot of humans and goons. sorta like skull rock.--Taurenchick484

Cataclysm changes

What do we know about the changes for Cataclysm? Will the north still be for lv 10 till 20? South maybe higher, lv 60?Gorvar (talk) 09:46, September 4, 2009 (UTC)

Very, very little. The Alpha build isn't out yet, so there's very little that's known outside of what was at Blizzcon. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 17:28, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
From what I gathered looking at the concept map for the leveling it looks like Southern Barrens is a 30-35 zone and Northern Barrens would stay as the 10-20 zone unless they made Stonetalon the 10-20 zone for tauren which is unlikely. They did mention there would be a somewhat big difference between the level ranges of the 2 halves. http://elitistjerks.com/f15/t30118-world_warcraft_lore_storyline_discussion_spoilers/p200/#post1361191 Leviathon (talk) 17:34, September 4, 2009 (UTC)

Barrens getting Greener?

This may just be my imagination, but I think since the beginning of WoW, the Barrens have actually gotten a little more green and a little less brown. Anyone else think they've noticed this? I notice that they tend to look a little greener during night, but I've noticed it also during the day. Especially when I'm on a flight path. Tanooki1432 (talk) 20:09, March 10, 2010 (UTC)

While the Barrens will be getting greener in Cataclysm, I think it's just your imagination that anything has changed already. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 21:55, March 10, 2010 (UTC)

You know I liked the Barren more when it was you know... Barren! :) Rimor Conscientia (talk) 04:57, July 13, 2010 (UTC)

How to deal

Should we deal with the page as an area in lore, or as the pre-Cataclysm zone? (Luxor (t•c) 19:50, 12 May 2011 (UTC))

It's being treated as the pre-Cataclysm zone, and the lore of what the area is as a whole. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 20:03, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
So we have to keep the outdated flight paths and stuff like that? (Luxor (t•c) 20:08, 12 May 2011 (UTC))
Yes, the page should not need to be edited as the Barrens doesn't exist anymore.. it's Northern and Southern Barrens now, only those articles should be expanded upon... well, flight paths can probably be removed, but everything else should remain.
