The Staff of Prehistoria was formerly required as an item in order to access Ironaya in the Chamber of Khaz'mul in Uldaman. It was created by combining the 
[Gni'kiv Medallion] (contained in Baelog's Chest) and 
[The Shaft of Tsol] (dropped from Revelosh), and subsequently placed in the Map Chamber in order to open the Chamber of Khaz'mul.
Since Cataclysm, the item is no longer required and can no longer be obtained, as players can simply interact with the keystone in the Map Chamber directly. However, the Staff still visually appears during the Chamber's opening animation. Likewise, in the Legacy of Tyr, the Lost Dwarves place the Staff and use it to open the way to the Chamber for the players following Bromach's defeat.
Notes and trivia
- Mathias Shaw knows about the use of the Staff in the Chamber of Khaz'mul, and he hasn't seen anyone carrying it.[1]
- Spelling the names of the shaft and medallion backwards give "Lost Viking".
