The sword does 90% of the target's health in damage to it, avoiding any damage scaling mechanics on low-level mobs, which is useful for quests that ask players to weaken and not kill targets. Trivial targets for the sword are non-elite enemies not inside dungeons or raids that show up as grey in the unit frame, which are typically 10 levels or more lower than the character.
Patch changes
Hotfix (2016-07-26): Using the Soft Foam Sword should no longer cause trinkets to activate. - Patch 7.0.3 (2016-07-19): Added.
