Shards of the Void are obtained by destroying 
[The Box] with the Shard of Pure Light at [87, 72] near Ravenholdt Manor in the Alterac Mountains.
Additional Shards can be obtained by returning to Blackfathom Deeps to loot another Box.
As an ingredient
After learning the recipes by speaking with the Shadowy Figure when destroying [The Box], shards are used as reagents to make:
Blacksmithing
Leatherworking
Tailoring
