Observational Notes: Ramoliths

<The journal contains several hundred loose leaflets of ironwood paper, folded notes and misaligned parchment.

The further back into the book you go, the older and more faded the notes become.

The inside cover is transcribed with a message that reads:>

The following notes are my own personal observations concerning the nature and behaviors of ramoliths.

As part of my designation as Stonebound Geomender to understand, wield and utilize the earth in our craft, I have come to learn a great deal about ramoliths.

- Geomender Harmot

Origins

From the moment we arrived in Sector AR-938, many of our units noticed a significant elemental presence in the surrounding region. The most common of these entities are elementals of stone.

While elementals usually take on a shapeless, randomized structure befitting their nature, most of the local earth elementals in this region appear to be different.

One of these main differences is the means in which they maneuver around on four limbs, which appears to help offset the weight of the massive stony structures that some of them bear on their heads. As of now, these creatures appear to be uninterested in our presence.

I will continue to observe from a distance.

Elemental Proximity

During our exploration of the surrounding region around Site 0, I noted a large presence of these strange four-limbed elementals dwelling along the mountain slopes and crags.

The further away from the Site 0 we went, the more infrequent these four-limbed elementals became. I have begun to wonder what draws them to the mountains around Sector AR-938.

Due to the nature of our work, and because a larger elemental presence like this would normally be a cause for alarm, we have taken preliminary steps of caution to keep a significant distance away from these creatures until we can better understand their nature.

Domestication of the Ramolith

Some other workers have started referring to these creatures as ramoliths in order to help distinguish them from the occasional wild elemental we happen across during our work.

Unlike said wild elementals, the nature of these ramoliths appears to be quite docile, which has proven remarkably effective in our operations around the sector. With the help of fellow geomenders, we have successfully wrangled some of these ramoliths into our everyday operations.

From hauling ore and stone, to a clearing out our quarries and cregs, the ramoliths have increased our labor efficiency by several margins. Although some appear to be stubborn, a firm and guiding hand goes a long way when directing these calm-natured elementals.

The Dueling Ramoliths

Although most of the clusters of ramoliths, now being referred to as herds, are unbothered by our presence, many have taken notice of two ramoliths of note that have caused some unexpected disturbances.

On occasion, these ramoliths have been seen charging and clashing their horns against one another. Even others of their kind have started partaking in similar activities, though not nearly to the explosive extent as these two in question.

The unusual size and power of these two ramoliths has led to some significant damage to our quarries. I am uncertain what will become of them.

Updated footnote:

Reports have indicated that the two aggressors have collapsed the mountain range southwest of the Site 0 in another one of their "duels."

I am regrettably nowhere near the site in question but the reports state that their recent brawl has somehow aggravated the storm clouds that loomed over the mountains.

Observational notes on Ramoliths:

Our continued expansion around the sector and below the surface has led to a wider spread use of ramoliths in our everyday work. This has led to a few interesting observations.

- Their stone hides are receptive to healing clay properties, much like our own.

- They are capable of slow regeneration by entering a state of torpor which can last an upwards of over forty-thousand recorded solar cycles.

- The emergence of flora and plant life around the region have been well-received by the ramoliths and now serve as a primary source of energy for them.

- Excessive consumption of vegetation appears to affect their own bodies, resulting in strange growth of moss along their stony hides.

The Ordinant and the Ramolith

During one of my visits to Dornogal, I was summoned to inspect a large ramolith for any abnormalities or fractures.

I learned that the creature was to be a gift for the Commander of the Peacekeepers and adorned with armor forged by the Ordinants of Dornogal.

I never quite understood their directives and function, but I couldn't deny the efficiency of their armaments. Every tool, weapon or armor piece produced by the Ordained were intricately crafted and surged with the power they forged into it.

Later, following the ceremony, I saw the creature. Beneath its armor, its hide was nearly glowing and its pristine horns radiated that same fiery glow that permeated their work.

Part of me wondered if the armor inflicted any sort of discomfort on it, but the ramolith did not appear to affect it.

In fact, the ramolith appears to be far more collected and composed. A fascinating change in behavior.
