Mathrengyl Bearwalker is a night elf druid trainer located in the Cenarion Enclave in Darnassus. He used to be Fandral Staghelm's direct assistant[2] and second,[3] and is described as one of the most sage and august druids in Teldrassil.[2] He is known to truly walk in balance with nature.[1]
History
When Mathrengyl first trained for the path of the Claw, his meeting with the Great Bear Spirit was a little bewildering, but very intense.[1]
World of Warcraft
Four years after the Third War, he put out word that he wished to speak with the Alliance druid adventurer in order to train them further.[2] He taught them a teleportation spell and directed them to Dendrite Starblaze in Moonglade.[4] When the training with Dendrite concluded, he sent them back to Mathrengyl to continue the training for the role as a protector of balance. He gave them a task:[1] to use the Cenarion Lunardust on the Moonkin Stone to summon the moonkin Lunaclaw and face him to earn the strength of body and heart it possessed. With both, the spirit bear teaching and the strength of Lunaclaw obtained, Mathrengyl taught them what it meant to be a Druid of the Claw.[5] Mathrengyl then continued directing the adventurer as they grew more powerful. The next power to master was poisons. The adventurer was once again sent to Dendrite[6] and then to Auberdine to aid with the problems of animal poisoning there. When Mathrengyl learned about the situation in Auberdine, he was surprised. Nevertheless, the adventurer was successful in their efforts, and Mathrengyl taught them how to cure poison in a permanent way.[7] Mathrengyl continued watching the adventurer and sent them back to Dendrite when the time to learn aquatic form came.[8] After passing the trials, the adventurer came back to Mathrengyl, who completed their training for the new form and recognized them for their efforts.[9]
When an adventurer delivered a Nightmare Shard to Falla Sagewind, she sent them to Mathrengyl. He peered into the shard and was concerned.[10] When the hunter Torwa Pathfinder requested the help of a druid, Mathrengyl sent the adventurer to him.[11] He was also working with adventurers on obtaining morrowgrain for his Archdruid. He admitted he felt uneasy in its presence.[12] With the dangers of southern Kalimdor, Fandral relegated Mathrengyl to deal with Moonglade's call for aid,[13] and he directed the adventurer to speak with Rabine Saturna to proceed further.[14] Cenarion Circle's reach went as far as the Western Plaguelands where Mulgris Deepriver was investigating the plague of the Scourge. When he fell, his Glyphed Oaken Branch was delivered to Mathrengyl. He was surprised it was from a tauren and contemplated that perhaps the tauren have not fallen as far from Cenarius as Fandral would believe.[15]
Cataclysm
After the Cataclysm, he spoke with a messenger and received messages from Moonglade, with an urgent message from Loganaar. Therefore, he sent druid adventurers to speak with him.[16][17]
Battle for Azeroth
During the Burning of Teldrassil, he was caught in the chaos and could be saved. It is unknown if he survived the conflict.
