A marmot is generally a large ground squirrel. The brown marmot is the most well known.[1]
In World of Warcraft
In World of Warcraft, the most common type of marmot, the 
Brown Marmot, is only seen in the Blade's Edge Mountains area.
You can control another type of marmot besides the Brown Marmot, simply called a 
Marmot, when you are on the quest [20-30] The Smallest Creatures by using the [Kodohide Drum] by a cave near Bloodmaul Camp. Note that the "Brown Marmot" become the "Marmot" when controlled by a player.
The Borean Marmot can be found around the Borean Tundra.
In Ulduar, Brann Bronzebeard yells to Archmage Rhydian, "Sneak?! What do you think we are, marmots?"
As a companion
- Alloyed Alleyrat can be captured in pet battles in Operation: Mechagon.
- Borean Marmot can be captured in pet battles in Borean Tundra.
- Brown Marmot can be captured in pet battles in The Hinterlands.
- Mechagon Marmot, Scrapyard Tunneler and Specimen 97 can be captured in pet battles on Mechagon Island.
[Rooter] is a mechanical marmot rewarded from 
[Pet Emporium].
[Sneaky Marmot] is purchased from Griftah in the Hall of Shadows for 10,000 
[Coins of Air].- Vale Marmot can be captured in pet battles in Stormsong Valley.
- Yellow-Bellied Marmot can be captured in pet battles in Twilight Highlands.
Notes
- Brown Marmots respawn instantly when killed to prevent the quest from becoming impossible.
