Furion was the first night elf to oppose the evil Queen Azshara and her demon-worshiping high-borne. He, along with his brother Illidan and the demi-god Cenarius, led the battle against the Burning Legion during the War of the Ancients. He was the first to forsake magic and adopt the tenets of druidism. He has been the spiritual leader of the night elves for over ten thousand years and has worked to safeguard his people's fragile culture – even from within the trance-like state of the Emerald Dream.[1]

- He was 15,032 years old during the events of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos.[1]
- His name is Furion in Reign of Chaos, while in the expansion pack Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne his name is changed to Malfurion.
- In Reign of Chaos, he uses the model of the cut Archdruid hero unit. This model was also given to Jaina and the Druid of the Talon unit.
- In The Frozen Throne, he now rides a stag and uses a unique texture of the Keeper of the Grove model and animations.
- During cutscenes, his name is Furion Stormrage and Malfurion Stormrage.
