Kor'gall was a ruthless and tyrannical ogre warlord and chieftain of the Stonemaul clan living in Dustwallow Marsh after the Battle for Mount Hyjal. At some point, he came into possession of the ancient orcish axe Serathil. Kor'gall was a formidable warrior who conquered the clan. One ogre, whose brothers were killed by Kor'gall, knew that he was leading the clan to ruin and sought help from the Horde during the events of the invasion of Durotar.

Kor'gall was soon approached by Rexxar, a mok'nathal. Rexxar demanded to join the clan and Kor'gall agreed, but only if he were to pass the Trial of Strength through the Gauntlet, a valley full of many beasts. Rexxar and his friends survived the Gauntlet, and Kor'gall was impressed enough to allow Rexxar to join. Rexxar's first request was to aid the Horde against Admiral Proudmoore, but Kor'gall had no intention of ever honoring their former allies again. Frustrated, Rexxar exercised his right to challenge Kor'gall for leadership of the clan in the Trial of Blood. Kor'gall decided to entertain the request but warned that he was not as slow-witted as Rexxar first guessed.

Rexxar realized he underestimated Kor'gall's skills, however, he had the beasts of the wilderness to aid him as well as his skills as a hunter.[3] Rexxar beat Kor'gall and slew him. As Kor'gall died, the last words on his ears were his men cheering for Rexxar.[4]

Their leader, the tyrannical Kor'gall, had discovered the ancient orcish axe Serathil and used the artifact to control the clan. He forced Rexxar to undergo the Trial of Strength, running a monster-filled gauntlet, to join. Rexxar succeeded, but Kor'gall still refused to help the Horde. Rexxar sensed the corruption within Kor'gall and slew the ogre chieftain in the Trial of Blood, earning Serathil and assuming control of the clan to lead them against the Alliance.[5]

Notes and trivia

  • Exploring Azeroth offers a slightly updated version of how Rexxar asked his demands:
    • In Warcraft III, Rexxar first told Kor'gall that he wanted to join the Stonemaul clan, after which Kor'gall sent him to the Gauntlet to prove himself. After proving and joining, Rexxar asked the warlord to join the Horde in the attack against Proudmoore.[4]
    • Exploring Azeroth states that when Rexxar first came to Kor'gall, he demanded the ogres join the Horde, after which Kor'gall struck a bargain with him, saying that the clan would join if Rexxar passed a series of trials. It goes to say that Rexxar passed and joined the clan, and that Rexxar asked them again to aid the Horde, with Kor'gall refusing to honor their deal.[2]
  • The Rally the Ogres quest text within Old Hatreds reveals that Kor'gall recently came to power, which is at odd with his Draenor counterpart who is implied to have ruled the Stonemaul clan for some time.[6]
