Khardros Wildhammer was the High Thane of the Wildhammer clan before, where they inhabited the foothills and crags around the base of the mountain and sought to gain more control within the city of Ironforge. During the War of the Three Hammers following the death of High King Modimus Anvilmar, Khardros went to war for control of Ironforge itself. The Bronzebeards won and banished the other two clans away from Ironforge. Khardros and his Wildhammer warriors traveled north through the barrier gates of Dun Algaz, and they founded their own kingdom within the distant peak of Grim Batol. There, the Wildhammers thrived and rebuilt their stores of treasure. Khardros defended Grim Batol when Modgud attacked the home of the Wildhammers. Khardros fought his way through her army and eventually faced Modgud herself, killing her. The rest of Dark Irons were completely annihilated. King Khardros joined King Madoran Bronzebeard and led their forces into Redridge, but stopped and returned home when Ragnaros was released and Sorcerer-Thane Thaurissan killed in the process.

After the war, due to Grim Batol being uninhabitable, the Wildhammers were offered a place to live within the borders of Ironforge by King Bronzebeard, but the Wildhammers steadfastly refused. Khardros took his people north towards the lands of Lordaeron. Settling within the lush forests of the Hinterlands, the Wildhammers crafted the city of Aerie Peak.

As High Thane, Khardros had an iron scepter that signified his position. It may have actually been the handle of the Hammer of the High King, which had disappeared during the War of the Three Hammers. When asked by Kurdran Wildhammer, his eventual successor, of its origins, he simply replied that its past was not important; its significance lay only in what it had become. He would not offer anymore than that, and Kurdran had no reason to ask.[1]

After his death, his and Madoran's sons had statues built in the Valley of Kings in southern Loch Modan to honor the late king of the Wildhammers and Bronzebeards and to remind the world of the threat of Dark Iron clan.[2]

Notes

  • Khardros had a habit of speaking with philosophical musings.[3]
  • Khardros' Anvil is named after him.
