Human Seedlings are the unfortunate survivors of Hillsbrad Fields who are now buried in the Sludge Fields of Hillsbrad Foothills, awaiting harvest.
The Risen Hillsbrad Farmer and Risen Hillsbrad Peasants will occasionally leap across the field and feast upon one of these unfortunate victims with an ability called "Eat Face". When the player encounters this grim situation, they are compelled to "do the right thing" and help the seedlings, either by bashing their head with a shovel or pulling them out of the dirt.

In the quest, the objective is to rescue the seedlings. However, the item the player gets to keep at the end (there is no turn-in for the quest) is called 
[Shovel of Mercy] and using it appears to put the seedlings out of their misery rather than save them.

The Seedlings may be a reference to the 1980 movie Motel Hell in which a mad Hotel Owner/Farmer Vincent Smith captured people and buried them up to their necks before slaughtering them and processing them into various meat products.
