After some reformatting of the Ulduar loot page and asking for feedback about it, it seems like people prefer the old version instead of the new version that has been rolled out since MoP loot pages. Personally I find it a bit disheartening that people prefer the old version since I've been working on converting loot tables to the new version for months.

New version cons:

  • "format is too busy"

Old version pros:

  • "Information is organized in a significantly cleaner fashion"
  • "organized in a manner that is much more easier to read"
  • "easier for people to see what gear is for them"

So which one do you prefer? --g0urra[T҂C] 16:28, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Feedback from Twitter:

I can see why people prefer the old one, but I find it far too big and ugly. Maybe new w/ class/spec icons instead of item type.

I think I can agree with this one - for example  [Handguards of Potent Cures] could have RestorationBalanceMistweaver next to it. --g0urra[T҂C] 17:23, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

I don't think icons would make for a good solution in a large table: can't easily sort by icon, and finding the icon of your spec in a sea of 16x16 images isn't particularly easy. — foxlit (talk) 01:09, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

Made a column with the type of item and what role it gives: Ulduar loot/new. --g0urra[T҂C] 07:40, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

I prefer that to both the old and new. Being able to sort by multiple categories is very handy, especially when the table covers that many items. MerryC (talk) 08:01, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
Note that the "Type" column in the revised one is temporary - it's there until the rest is filled out. --g0urra[T҂C] 22:49, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
The revised version looks okay to me. It might be worthwhile to look into adjusting the font-size/cell padding for those tables -- darktable reduces both, which might be what Aliok is referring to as "cramped."
A more thorough solution is probably to add javascript-based filtering (allow readers to select a specific class/spec somewhere close to the loot table, and only show items relevant for the selected spec), but that isn't exactly straightforward. — foxlit (talk) 01:09, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
The padding could easily be fixed, I'll look into it. Javascript filtering would be ideal, but that would require a lot of work to pull off. --g0urra[T҂C] 09:25, 4 June 2013 (UTC)

The information is still easier to assimilate. I don't like the amount or how cramped together the words are in either of the new versions.Aliok (talk) 04:14, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

I've added padding to all MoP loot tables, as well as the Ulduar one. It should now be easier to read. --g0urra[T҂C] 13:52, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
