The Elixir of Tongues is an item that allows the imbiber to understand the languages of the opposite faction for an hour.[1] It can be purchased for 29 75 from Fizzi Liverzapper in Dalaran over the Broken Isles.
Trivia
- The Elixir of Tongues has existed in the game files since the original World of Warcraft, along with an alchemy recipe, [Recipe: Elixir of Tongues]. It originally had the description "This potion has no effect until we put languages in."[2]
- This item was introduced in response to the backlash caused by patch 8.1.0 breaking the popular role-playing addon Cross RP, which seamlessly provided cross-faction communication for role-players by passing their character speech through special community chat rooms. It stopped working when addons were barred from reading community chats. A thread bringing this issue to the developers' attention gathered 700 likes.
