Eco-dome

Eco-domes are domes of arcane energy that, much like a greenhouse, provide an environment in which lush plants and animals can survive.

The ethereals of the Consortium built several domes in the Netherstorm when they arrived on Outland and are currently maintaining them. In fact, wherever the Consortium establishes a presence, they bring their eco-domes, the fields allowing them to work in a controlled and life-sustaining atmosphere, since they often find themselves in hostile environments.[1]

These structures of channeled energy can currently be found in the central and northern parts of Netherstorm. The remainder of Netherstorm has been rendered hostile to most forms of life by demon invasion, the sundering of the world, or the effects of the manaforges. The energy that powers these domes is magical, though the techniques for maintaining them have technological aspects. The eco-domes contain the last of Netherstorm's greenery, carefully cultivated by the ethereals.[2] Some of the creatures inside the domes are not native to the area before it became Netherstorm. Some were even brought from Azeroth.[3]

The K'aresh Trust also uses eco-domes on their homeworld of K'aresh in an attempt to restore the old environment of the planet through Project Eco-Dome. This project is mostly managed by the broker cartel Cartel Om. Despite being constructed by the Consortium,[4] the Trust eco-domes are notably operated by anima, rather than arcane.[5] Like the Consortium eco-domes, some of the species within are not native to the environment, but have been brought in for the sake of trying to re-emulate what was once present.[6]
