The Dragon Wars were the conflicts where most dragons united to fight the black dragonflight after their betrayal during the War of the Ancients. This wasn't an easy fight, however - until those fateful events, the dragonflights all freely intermingled, and as such it was a battle between friends, lovers, and families. The red dragon Veritistrasz notably killed his best friend after she slaughtered his family, leaving deep scars in his psyche.[1] The Earth Warder's betrayal, now known as the Destroyer, left the dragon race in a state of near-extinction.[2]
At one point, the black dragonflight launched an assault on the Dragon Riders of Loreth'Aran, killing most of them in their sleep. Though many black dragons were killed in the ensuing battle, the Dragon Riders of Loreth'Aran were slain to the last man. Many green dragons sacrificed themselves but in the end failed to save their kaldorei allies.[3]
The black dragonflight was hunted down and nearly annihilated,[4] all but slain because of Deathwing's mad plots.[5] Deathwing's remaining consorts were also slain, by his own recklessness, in the first few days of the war.[6]
After the black dragons fell, the Dragon Isles were sealed.[7]
