Divine Sacrifice was a former Paladin spell. You needed to spend 11 points in Protection to get it. This spell was party-only. The damage transferred was subject to the Paladin's damage mitigation, such as armor, shield, absorb etc., therefore the Paladin might have taken significantly smaller damage than the sum of what the party members might have taken without this spell.

This ability was most useful when cast immediately following [Divine Shield]. Since it made the Paladin invulnerable, this cast sequence was a net %30 reduction in party damage, and could be useful in certain boss encounters where the boss caused massive party-wide damage in a short time.

Patch changes

  • Cataclysm Patch 4.0.1 (2010-10-12): Removed from game. Replaced by [Divine Guardian] (which previously was an improvement for Divine Shield) as an active spell used to reduce damage taken by nearby players.
  • Wrath-Logo-Small.png Patch 3.3.0 (2009-12-08): Redesigned. The effect of Divine Sacrifice is now party-only and the maximum damage which can be transferred is now limited to 40% of the paladin's health multiplied by the number of party members. Finally, the bug which allowed Divine Sacrifice to sometimes persist despite reaching its maximum damage has been fixed. Divine Sacrifice will now cancel as soon as its maximum damage value is exceeded in all cases.
  • Wrath-Logo-Small.png Patch 3.1.2 (2009-05-19): Damage done to the Paladin while this is active will no longer cause the effect to break early, and if it is dispelled or canceled early, the damage counter will reset correctly the next time the spell is cast.
  • Wrath-Logo-Small.png Patch 3.1.0 (2009-04-14): Added.
