Demolisher
- For the Warcraft III unit, see Demolisher (Warcraft III).
The demolisher (officially demolisher-class catapult)[1] is an orcish siege weapon. They replaced the orcish catapults after the Third War. Capable of hurling fiery projectiles over great distances, demolishers are a standing asset of the Horde and have been the doom of many Alliance regiments. Though a small team of orcs must always be available to man them, the demolishers unerringly serve as the Horde's greatest siege weapon.[2] Unlike catapults, demolishers' stone projectiles can be equipped with burning oil[3] (or napalm)[2] which sets the ground on fire wherever the projectiles land. A single demolisher can wreak havoc on enemy ground units.[4]
Despite theoretically being an improvement over the catapult, there were no demolishers in World of Warcraft until Wrath of the Lich King, although catapults were (and still are) quite common.
As can be seen with the Hired Demolitionists and the Horde Demolitionists, the drivers of demolishers are called demolitionists.
In World of Warcraft
The demolisher appears in World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King as a siege weapon. It is the baseline vehicle upon which the rest are based. It has both a long-range attack and a short-ranged spike ramming attack. The vehicle can also carry up to 3 passengers as well as a driver. In this vehicle, the passengers are exposed allowing them to be targeted and attacked — but also allowing them to do the same. The driver is also in control of both weapons.[5]
The Iron Horde utilized their own version of the demolisher, which took the form of a large cannon powered by an iron star.
Known
In the RPG
Horde demolishers use a phlogiston-powered boiler to fling its projectiles.[6]
Notes
- During the War of the Thorns, the Horde used demolishers and arcane-enhanced payloads to fire at a Sentinels fleet west of Ashenvale and later to shoot from Darkshore at Teldrassil itself, burning it down.[7][8]
