Spooky undead axe midget (or Crotchety Axe Guy) is a midget in the Iron Horde who has never made an appearance. This being wields a large axe, and wears a wolf skull and a fur coat that obscures their identity. They can be obtained as a portrait in Heroes of the Storm.
Origin
During Warlords of Draenor, a Reddit user who had just finished all the Alliance storylines asked on the /r/wow subreddit who was the "spooky undead axe midget" present on the loading screen art, wondering if it only showed up in Horde questing. In fact, this was simply Durotan's crotch.
It became one of the most popular posts on the sub with 15,000 upvotes, and even received a response from Community Manager Zarhym.[1] The exchange has also become a famous meme in the Warcraft community:
- - I just finished all the Alliance storylines in Draenor but I still have no idea who this spooky undead axe midget from the loading screen is. Does he only show up in Horde quests?

- Others believed that Durotan's crotch was his padded knee standing on something.
- Blizzard later added a "Crotchety Axe Guy" portrait in Heroes of the Storm as a reference to the spooky undead axe midget. In the portrait, the skull has blue-glowing eyes.
