The Cloak of Purity
On Mardigan.

The Cloak of Purity is a powerful artifact that protects its wearer from corrupting influences and allows them to see through illusions.[1][2]

History

Archbishop Benedictus and other priests sent the priest Revil Kost to find the artifact stolen by the Dark Riders shortly before the Cataclysm. They referred to it as their artifact.[3]

When Revil, Karlain, Brink Spannercrank, and Althea Ebonlocke got to Karazhan, the priest found the cloak. It shielded him from fel magic in the tower. When Brink saw Revil wearing the cloak, he hoped the priest would donate it to him. Revil refused, however, and as he was fighting the Dark Riders, the cloak granted Revil a blessed vision[4] of their true form and history - cursed human merchants. As they continued searching the tower, Revil and Brink found another room with artifacts. Suddenly a blast from the Curator knocked Revil, but the cloak protected him from the impact. Brink quickly used an amulet to rewind time, sending the Curator, Dark Riders, and the Night Watchers back in time, while the Cloak again worked its magic and protected Revil and Brink from the amulet's spell. Brink again inquired if he should take the cloak to SI:7 armory, to which Revil agreed, but only after they were done with Karazhan.

The two then continued to Opera Hall to find Karlain and Mardigan facing twisted visions of Karlain's and Aredhel's past. Revil proceeded to placed the cloak on Mardigan, and the feral worgen saw the true course of the events in the vision, after which Revil took the cloak back. The group then teleported out of Karazhan, and Revil removed it and handled it to Brink. When the gnome asked if he felt corrupted or any effects since he removed it, the priest responded that he felt that a higher purpose was working through him, and that he delivered the cloak where it was intended. As the three parted ways, Brink gave the cloak back to Revil as it was where it was actually intended.[1]

Years later, Revil came back to Karazhan, now inhabited by Khadgar, and returned the cloak after availing himself of its protection as he hunted the Dark Riders.[2]

Speculation

The reason why Revil did not return it to Benedictus or the church but to Karazhan was likely his betrayal as the Twilight Father.
