Classic, originally the nickname for the 2004 release World of Warcraft, is a term used to encompass the subsequent expansion content in their classic forms. It is also referred to as the "Classic branch" or as the "Classic progression realms".
- World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria Classic (MoP Classic), the upcoming 2025 release based on the original Mists of Pandaria expansion.
- World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic (Cata Classic), the 2024 release based on the original Cataclysm expansion.
- World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic (Wrath Classic), the 2022 release based on the original Wrath of the Lich King expansion.
- World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Classic (BC Classic), the 2021 release based on the original The Burning Crusade expansion.
Other usage
"Classic" is also used to refer to following:
- Warcraft III: Classic refers to Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne to differentiate them from the remaster.
- Warcraft II: Classic refers to Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, to differentiate it from the expansion and Battle.net Edition releases.[1]
- As of 2024, it may be used to refer to the Battle.net Edition to differentiate it from the remaster, Warcraft II: Remastered.
- In addition, Warcraft: Orcs & Humans may be referred to as Classic to differentiate it from the remaster, Warcraft I: Remastered.
- Blizzard Classic Arcade (and Blizzard Classic Games), a label used for the original Blizzard games like The Lost Vikings.
- Classic Games, a former team at Blizzard Entertainment.
- Classic Timewalking is a dungeon event that features some the original dungeons, available to queue via the Dungeon Finder.
Notes
- The term originally referred to World of Warcraft: Classic through 2019—2021. It was redefined with the release of the Burning Crusade Classic experience, and the Classic Era term was introduced for the releases meant for the 2004 original experience.
