Illusions are the appearance of weapon enchants, analogous to the way that weapon appearances themselves can be transmogrified over other weapons. They are applied at transmogrifiers.
Illusions were formalized as a concept in Legion, but there were a few items added before Legion that would modify the appearance of weapons.
