Califax was a keeper of the grove and one of the Watchers who guarded Illidan Stormrage's prison in the Barrow Deeps below Mount Hyjal. He commanded a small army of intelligent wildkin, including the Elder Watchers. During the Third War, Tyrande Whisperwind fought her way into the prison to free Illidan. Califax tried to stop her, telling her that the place was forbidden even to her and that releasing Illidan would doom them all, but Tyrande killed him and his Watchers.[3] Califax was one of Maiev Shadowsong's favorite Watchers and Illidan was amused by his death, telling Tyrande that Maiev would be angry.[2]
