The Bough of Corruption is all that is left of Xavius' Corruption on Teldrassil.
After the War of the Ancients, Xavius was aided by the Old Gods and entered the Emerald Dream, where he began to corrupt it... Then he corrupted Fandral Staghelm several thousand years later when he first planted the seeds for Teldrassil, resulting in the poisoning/corruption of the land. Now, with Malfurion's return, the corruption is finally fought back and the damage done by Xavius seems to have been nullified after several years.
