Classic proficiency, formerly known as Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert, and Artisan, is the beginning stage of a profession learned at the appropriate profession trainer when a character has reached at least level 5. Not counting racial or other bonuses, it allows skill ups to a maximum of 300 points.

Profession proficiency levels fall into eleven groups to learn and execute recipes organized by expansion: Classic, Outland (Bc icon.gif), Northrend (Wrath-Logo-Small.png), Cataclysm (Cata-Logo-Small.png), Pandaria (Mists-Logo-Small.png), Draenor (WoD-Logo-Small.png), Legion (Legion-Logo-Small.png), Kul Tiran / Zandalari (BattleForAzeroth-Logo-Small.png), Shadowlands (Shadowlands-Icon-Inline.png), Dragon Isles (Dragonflight-Icon-Inline.png), and Khaz Algar (TheWarWithin-Icon-Inline.png).
