Arcane Power is an Arcane mage talent that increases spell damage by 30% but increases mana cost by 30% for a short period of time.
This ability is one of the mage's best burst damage tools, and it is often combined with other burst damage abilities and items.
Casting Arcane Power is affected by the global cooldown.
Notes
- In PvP combat, Arcane Power's spell damage buff is reduced to 20%.
- With [Overpowered], the spell damage buff is reduced to 40%.
- Arcane Power is dispelled as a magic buff.
Trivia
- Due to Arcane Power formerly having a 3 minute cooldown, a mage with Arcane Power was often referred to as a "Three-Minute Mage".
Patch changes
- Patch 10.0.0 (2022-10-25): Removed.
- Patch 9.0.2 (2020-11-17): Rank 2 added at level 56: Duration increased by 5 sec.
- Patch 9.0.1 (2020-10-13): Now learned at level 29 (was 40). Rank 2 added at level 41: Arcane Power reduces your spells cost by 30%.
- Patch 8.0.1 (2018-07-17): Arcane Power is now affected by the Global Cooldown.
- Patch 7.1.0 (2016-10-25): Now available at level 40, down from level 44.
- Patch 7.0.3 (2016-07-19): Now increases spell damage by 30% (up from 20%) and reduces mana cost by 30% (formerly increased mana cost by 10%). Duration reduced to 10 seconds (down from 15 seconds). Now learned at level 44 (was 62).
- Patch 5.0.4 (2012-08-28): Cooldown reduced to 1.5 minutes, down from 2 minutes. Now a level 62 Arcane ability (was a tier 7 Arcane talent).
- Patch 3.0.9 (2009-02-10): Now increases damage and mana cost by 20% (down from 30%), cooldown reduced to 2 minutes (down from 3 minutes). Arcane Power and [Presence of Mind] now share a category cooldown. Arcane Power causes a 15 second cooldown. Presence of Mind, once consumed, causes a 1.5 second cooldown.
- Patch 1.12.0 (2006-08-22): It is no longer possible to gain the benefit of this spell and [Power Infusion] at the same time by careful timing.
- Patch 1.11.0 (2006-06-19): Damage and mana cost reduced by 5%.
- Patch 1.10.2 (2006-05-03): This ability will no longer stack with Power Infusion. If you gain both at the same time, Arcane Power will take precedence.
- Patch 0.9 (2004-08-17): Mana penalty has been slightly reduced.
