Animacones are seeds that grow on celestial trees in the groves of Ardenweald in the Shadowlands. They contain condensed anima that is used to feed wildseeds.[1][2] They are also the basis for the hearts of celestial trees[3] as well as the 
[Vessel of Ardenweald] needed for the Crest of Ascension.[4][5] They can also be used to create functional illusions by faeries, such as those created for the Star Lake Amphitheater performances.
In Heartwood Grove, a lot of animacones was lost and stolen by the masked fae, but some were recovered.[6] Similarly in the Heart of the Forest, spriggans stole a huge store of animacones.[7]

Notes
- While souls give part of their anima to Ardenweald to take soulshapes[8] and that animacones fall from the boughs of the celestial trees to the ground and collected by ardenmoths,[9]faeries, and other night fae,[10] it is not clear if this accounts for all the anima coming into Ardenweald.
