The Adherent of the Abyss is a human summoned by offering an 
[Abhorrent Essence of the Abyss] at the Abyssal Icon in Saltstone Mine in Stormsong Valley.
Abilities and strategy
Terror of the Depths — Causes an enemy to flee in terror for 5 sec.
Void Bolt — Hurls a bolt of dark magic at an enemy, inflicting Shadow damage.
Void Orb — Summons forth an entropic orb that pulls players towards it, exploding after 5 sec, inflicting Shadow damage to all players within 6 yards and reducing healing received by 20% for 10 sec.
Try interrupting his Terror of the Depths as much as possible, and get out of the void orbs. During the fight, he summons Abyssal Destroyers. Kill them as soon as possible.
In case you fail and the adherent despawns, click on the Abyssal Rift to resummon him.
