Yes, <name>, this shard does explain the occurrence of the rifts. The elemental planes have been in chaos in Outland ever since Draenor was destroyed. These shards cause a weakness in the already damaged elemental planes and allow the elementals to cross over.
We're still collecting information on who or what is behind all of this. However, the more shards you bring me, the better prepared we will be to fight the elemental invasion here in Azeroth.
