Wisp Spirit is a night elf passive racial trait that increases speed after death.
Notes
While other races run at normal movement speed as ghosts, this racial trait causes dead night elves to turn into wisps that move 75% faster. This can be very useful in world PvP in allowing the player to reach their corpse and resurrect sooner, eat, 
[Shadowmeld], and be ready to fight again faster. It also helps recover from wipes in dungeons slightly faster, reducing downtime.
This ability improves in certain zones in Northrend. Whereas other races use a spectral gryphon in Icecrown and Storm Peaks, the night elf turns into a flying wisp which moves faster than the regular "ghost mounts".
Many call this racial ability "Improved Death", mocking night elves for having a racial ability that is only useful after dying, rather than something that is useful to prevent them from dying in the first place. The ability is situationally useful, however, and unlike many other racial abilities benefits all classes.
Patch changes
Patch 3.0.8 (2009-01-20): Speed bonus increased from 50% to 75%. 
Patch 1.1.1 (2004-11-17): Night Elf characters in Wisp form will now have correct collision detection. - Patch 1.1.0 (2004-11-07): Added.
