Varithoman the Penitent is the faithful chronicler of the Jailer. They were once a mortal soul who were condemned to the darkest parts of the Maw and, in their own words, "learned humility through [their] suffering". After the four giants Bahmethra, Hrestimorak, Nilganihmaht, and Salaranga launched a failed uprising against the Jailer and were punished for it, the master of the Maw asked Varithoman to make a record of the giants' crimes and the price they'd paid, as a reminder to others that it is folly to defy the Banished One.[1]
