Hello.

Why do you put icon to the items, when they are in a sentence?

It seems a little strange don't you think?

I do that as i think it helps finding the right item in-game is easier.

Also in some articles links tend to disappear in the text when a common item, as quest items usually are, got the same color as the default text color (white).

To illustrate what i mean look at Electrocutioner 6000 where i've added the picture of the  [Workshop Key].

While I agree that links to common items using {{t|item)) tend to disappear in text, I've seen you change a lot of links to {{item}}... which would then 'require' icons. Myself, I abhor icons in text as a general rule, though they're okay in lists. Similarly, I fairly often use simple links to (eg) quest items where they appear in text. Most quest items on quest pages also appear as objectives or provided items, nulling the reason to link them in the body of text, though there are always exceptions.

The "find things easier in-game" kinda breaks down for things that either a) are rare in the game, or b) use icons that are also used by several other things - especially closely related other things. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 23:20, August 10, 2010 (UTC)

Good point. Thank you for you feedback it will really help me think twice before doing things. And ofcourse it's even better when it comes to subjects, or in this case, article formulas that doesn't have a right or wrong in every situation.

I agree that i have made some edits that may just mess things up. And the alternative to change from 'loot|rare' to 'item' is just pointless. Though i would like to know the difference. This quesstion is based on how the Help:Tooltips is formulated. Because to me it seems strange to use the 'loot' instead of 'item' when you add new content, what do you think?

You are very familiar to all this site can do and what the general rules are, i'm not even though i learn more all the time. As you can see i've just started to contribute to the site.

{{item}} gets the commonality of the item from the tooltip box; {{loot}} gets it from a parameter. The touted benefit is "if the commonality changes, you only edit one place". But since that's either a) not going to happen often, or b) is going to happen everywhere/all at once (cataclysm), I am skeptical. The other touted benefit is the icon, of course.

{{loot}} is a lighter weight (and older) link modifier than {{item}}. Many pages will use {{loot}} for historical reasons. However, we discovered that on pages with very large numbers of links (such as the recipe pages) eventually the wiki software stops parsing templates. loot causes less work, and thus extends the number of link templates processed, as well as speeding up page loading. {{item}} is okay if there are less than a few hundred links on the page, though.

While I may be able to provide assistance, beware of taking my word as absolute gospel. Wikis aren't written in stone, and many of the "general rules" are more in the nature of "customs". Feel free to disagree - civilly - if you disagree with some other editor's opinion on style or content. (Beware of Project:3RR.)
