Curious

Your Spider Kingdom Expansion Concept is just awesome. How did you come up with things ideas? --Sairez (talk) 05:38, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Mostly by playing WoW. I also read that Blizzard wanted to do an entire Azjol-Nerub zone for Wrath but ran out of time, so I thought about what might be in it. And I just kept thinking up new dungeons and raids I wanted to see. Finally I decided to put it all here. Glad you like it - keep checking back for more stuff, I'm always updating. --GoldenYak (talk) 07:54, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Your Bestiary

Can I add some of those races to my website Fictionalraces.wikia.com ? I'll give full credit to you. Very brilliant idea! Hallowseve15 (talk) 18:43, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Feel free. Just send people this way if they ask. GoldenYak (talk) 05:08, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Hello

You're a difficult man to get a hold of if you're not on MMO-Champion, you know that? Anyway, this is a bit of a strange question to ask, but I've been looking at some of your character sketches on MMO-Champion, and they're quite good. I'm interested to know what tools you're using, if I might ask. Theweirdguy1992 (talk) 02:29, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

I use a 2H pencil to make rough sketches, and tidy the lines up with an HB pencil. Once I'm happy with that, I scan it into photoshop and toss a texture onto it to give it the scroll-like effect. Simple as that! GoldenYak (talk) 07:16, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Yak

Hey man, after reading some of your awesome work, I was inspired to make my own fanfic, check is out: http://www.wowpedia.org/User:Hallu%27kenara/_Garrosh_Expansion Thank you. --Hallu'kenara (talk) 02:19, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

How to make Maps?

Hi! I am making an expansion idea and would like to know what program you used to make the updated northrend maps. (It it is photoshop, please tell me which version.) I would appreciate the help. Crawclaw Mubu (talk) 18:13, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

I use Photoshop CS for all my art. It's an older version, but all of the CS series are largely similar. GoldenYak (talk) 08:52, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the Help! :) Crawclaw Mubu (talk) 16:19, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Do you can say what the version is please and awesome ideas EzranniusofDraenor (talk) 19:18, 9 March 2015 (UTC)
Hey, thanks, the verison of Photoshop I use currently is CS5. Any earlier version of CS works as well though. (GoldenYak (talk) 01:12, 10 March 2015 (UTC))
very very thanks :) EzranniusofDraenor (talk) 08:47, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

Altar of the Old Gods

I just heard about a new Old God in MoP. (Y'Shaarj) I was wondering, since your Expansion Idea heavily focuses on the old Gods, how could he be incorporated in? You might have to remove the Champion of he who shapes from the altar of the old gods if you want it to be fully accurate with lore. Crawclaw Mubu (talk) 18:17, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Yes, the revelation of Y'Shaarj is a bit of a sticky wicket where my plot is concerned. I am considering simply replacing all references to my stand in Old God, He Who Shapes, though I'd hate to lose him - I've got a truly gruesome idea for what he's the Old God of (if I say so myself). I'm still mulling it over. GoldenYak (talk) 05:32, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Well, the Tribunal inside your Halls of Horror dungeon states that there is a minimum of 5 old gods. Perhaps you could simply retcon 5 old gods to 6? Crawclaw Mubu (talk) 13:19, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Maybe, maybe. My overall story is flexible enough to absorb a few tweaks like this. For now, I will include Y'Shaarj and He Who Shapes together with the other in-game Old Gods as 'the Five'. Perhaps I'll expand the role of the Unspoken a bit and make her something a little more interesting than 'yet another Old God...' Anyway, thanks for the interest! GoldenYak (talk) 03:13, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
Seeing as you have created new Old Gods, such as Ny'adrin and the Butcher, would you consider doing journal art for them in the same style you have done before? User:Dragnaxx32
I won't say never, but I don't have any plans to do that any time soon. I had a notion that one day I'd do an illustrated 'Necronomicon' for Warcraft as a fan project, with full pages and illustrations meant to look like they're actually from an in-universe 'bible' all about the Old Gods and the Void. An Umbranomicon or Book of the Void sort of thing. Maybe one day! Got a lot of other stuff to finish off first, now that job's workload has lightened a bit.GoldenYak (talk) 00:39, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

Inspired by the Spider Kingdom

Hello, GoldenYak. When I saw your Spider Kingdom expansion concept, I was inspired to create a fan-made expansion revolving around the South Seas. User:Tigertot/World of Warcraft: N'Zoth's Vengeance --Tigertot (talk) 01:37, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

Cool! Glad I could help prompt another fan expansion concept. More and more I like the idea of a South Seas themed expansion - I'd love it if Blizz made one. I took a look at your page - there's some good ideas. I really like the Tomb of Sargeras zone idea. Maybe if the South Seas ideas catch on with more fans, Blizz will be prompted to make one!GoldenYak (talk) 19:30, 29 August 2014 (UTC)

Fan Expansion Concept

It's me again, the guy who made the N'Zoth's Vengeance xpac. I was wondering what program you use to make maps for your expansions. I'd love to know. Tigertot (talk) 04:24, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

Hey - all my art including maps is produced using Adobe Photoshop - I've used versions from CS1 to CS5, currently using CS5. GoldenYak (talk) 09:34, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

The Titan Worlds

This could feasibly be the next WoW, if Blizzard decides to read this! 10:38, 4 May 2016

Once I'm done with my Into the Void expansion fan-concept (which is just about done), I'll be developing the Titan Worlds concept into a sort've 'Warcraft Chronicle'-style thing and putting it out there. Who knows, it might spark some interest! GoldenYak (talk) 22:33, 4 May 2016 (UTC)
Will the finished Into the Void have raid/dungeon boss abilities and/or strategies, as well as custom art for the monsters like the Spider Kingdom expansion did? If so, I'm excited. Also, nice job with the Transformers references in the form of the mekkanoi.
I don't plan to have boss abilities or strategies to start with. If some really cool ones come to mind I may go back and add them later. I'm hoping to have lots more monster art in the future, ideally on for every entry on the bestiary.GoldenYak (talk) 17:05, 7 May 2016 (UTC)

Hearthstone

Hey GoldenYak, do you play Hearthstone? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dragnaxx32 (talk · contr).

No, though I like to follow news about it, especially lately with all the Old God creatures they've introduced. GoldenYak (talk) 07:31, 1 June 2016 (UTC)

Emerald Dream Raids

You had HollowGan and Siege of Eden'ar in your concept art? I'm guessing that the Rift of Aln would have had the final Raid (The Core of Corruption). Of course in your version we would have fought N'Zoth and most likely a corrupted Malorne but I was thinking of doing a similar concept. I would have had Xavius and an Avatar of N'Zoth (to foreshadow the guy's future appearance) as the final boss. The Nightmare would be destroyed for god and N'Zoth expelled from the Dream, which prompts him to play the Deathwing card. Any other suggestions though? How would Tier 2 have gone? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by PirateLord193 (talk · contr).

Yeah, Hollow'Gan and Eden'ar are tier 1 raid, and corrupted Malorne is the final fight in Eden'ar. I plan to have Xavius be a boss encounter in the final raid, which is set inside the Rift of Aln. In my Azshara expansion concept N'Zoth's physical form is the final boss, when it was killed his essence escaped intact into the Dream, which leads into the Emerald Dream expansion - the final boss is N'Zoth in a new form, though I still might change it if I come up with something else (probably not, though!). I intend for N'Zoth to be utterly destroyed in this expansion. Tier 2 will be a vespari raid, which will explore their history, how they came to be in the Dream, and their connection with N'Zoth. Since Legion is changing so much Dream and Old God stuff, this whole Dream expansion will be a big 'what-if' mainly to show off art and stories, but I'm still planning to do it. If you're having trouble thinking of something for tier 2, do what I did - invent some brand new races hiding in the depths of the Dream and build them a kick-ass stronghold to raid. Maybe invent some new Ancients to corrupt, or have existing Ancients go bad. Maybe Agamaggan is corrupted and brings the quillboar into the Dream for a huge Razorfen-style raid. Throw some Titan dungeons in there, have Freya or a new Dream-based Watcher show up. Maybe the Nightmare creates a new race and unleashes it. I'm sure you'll think of something. GoldenYak (talk) 17:24, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

Priority List

In which order are you going to finish up your current projects? I speak of Into the Void, Worlds of Warcraft, and The Emerald Dream. I would love to see all of them finished. I just might request an audience with Metzen himself and pitch your ideas to him, if I get around to going to Blizz HQ. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dragnaxx32 (talk · contr).

lol well I'd sure love to get on Blizzard's radar even the slightest bit! Projects wise, right now I'm procrastinating and doing the easiest one first, which is finishing the last touches on Volume 1 of Worlds, which is easy because it's all just writing. Next I'm going to finish posting all the patch info for Into the Void, and sometime after that I'd do Emerald Dream. Probably after I'm able to complete the Emerald Nightmare raid in Legion. All the while I'll be trying to kick my ass into gear and do more art for both the expansion ones. GoldenYak (talk) 15:38, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
Also, this might be a bit off topic, but what insect are the vespari based off of? Like the myrmec are based off of ants, the nerubians are based off of spiders, the mantid are based off of praying mantises, and the qiraji are...are... based off of something. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dragnaxx32 (talk · contr).
Qiraji are a bit tricky aren't they - they seem to have a mix of general insect features rather than being based on any particular insect. The vespari however are explicitly based on wasps. Their name comes from 'vespidae', the scientific term for wasps. I picture them being very tall and thin, with delicate seeming bodies and elegant movements. Like the qiraji they have a silithid-esque species that serves their will, which they breed into various forms.GoldenYak (talk) 23:49, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

How I would end World of Warcraft

I'd have legion be finished up, and have KJ be the end boss, and we'd have a mythic only twisting nether phase like archimonde did, so we can truly kill him in the lore. I'd also have Jaina turn out to be a dreadlord in the final raid, because of the well-known saying, "Jaina is a dreadlord." Then, I'd follow that up with your RoA concept, which would segway into the Emerald Dream xpac idea, also by you. I'd have the penultimate xpac be Into the Void, and then have an xpac called Oblivion that would take you across 60 levels (actually have a good idea for how that would happen) and then history would be rewritten so Oblivion never happened and that could finish up the WoW storyline and lead into WoWs (worlds of warcraft). User:Dragnaxx32

It'd make me happy if any of the general themes I've made ideas for ever wound up being an actual expansion. I suspect we won't see a Dream expansion unfortunately - very disappointed in Blizzard's creatively bankrupt attitude towards it, but I have high hopes for the instances and Val'sharah (haven't gotten my Legion copy yet - next week!). I think a Void-related one is almost certain. I also have high hopes for an underworld expansion, with the champions of Azeroth working their way into the depths beneath the surface, perhaps in an effort to locate/protect the Titan worldsoul sleeping within. My Spider Kingdom expansion is my first take on an underworld-themed expansion, I'd love to see what Blizzard could do.GoldenYak (talk) 16:03, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

Karazhan: The Depths

Looks like you called it with "Underneath karazhan, there is a bizzare, inverted reflection of the tower. The minions of the Malevolence have camped out here." Just not the minions of the Malevolence part. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxiofX97_G0 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dragnaxx32 (talk · contr).

Yeees. I am well pleased. Been waiting to get down there since Burning Crusade.GoldenYak (talk) 02:06, 4 September 2016 (UTC)

The World's Heart

A clap and a half for you, sir! Is this your revamped Spider Kingdom Expansion? I wondered because I saw the name Doorward dropped for the Rogue class hall. Also, you did a nice job with the monk artifact and class hall overview, but the campaign needs more detail. Maybe you can work on that later. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dragnaxx32 (talk · contr).

Yep, the World's Heart is the title for my remake of the Spider Kingdom! Many of the elements from Spider Kingdom will be tweaked and rewritten for inclusion in World's Heart. And yeah, the monk section is only half written atm, I just put down my basic notes to expand on later - I love Legion's artifact and class hall mechanics so damn much, I just had to write my own, but they're not completely fleshed out yet. Something I will slowly work on, along with everything else I have to do!! GoldenYak (talk) 07:14, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
Ooh, Everblight! Are you going to kill Zephon for it? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dragnaxx32 (talk · contr).
lol Zephon might not have much to do with Everblight this go around, although he's definitely got a role to play. The rogues will cross blades with him frequently during their campaign story.GoldenYak (talk) 06:51, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
The only problem I have with the order hall benefits section is that they are basically copy-pasted from one another, with changed texts. The death knight one and the monk one are practically the same, because both open up class-specific shrines that give you buffs in corners of the underworld that can sometimes have mobs near them that can be defeated for bonus loot. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dragnaxx32 (talk · contr).
That's more or less the idea behind all of them - hotspots in the world with stuff to fight and buffs to win. There's variations that will be worked in and expanded upon for different classes - rogues mainly find treasure chests to unlock while they deal with guards they can pick-pocket, stun, knock-out, etc. and steal all the treasure without fighting. Death knights use their Control Undead ability to turn the mobs into allies, etc. There'll be differences based on each class, but the central idea is that the different classes find different battles that cater to their skills and win them for benefits. There'll be other class hall benefits as well when appropriate - hunters, rogues, and mages get fast-travel points, for example.GoldenYak (talk) 08:32, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

Raids

I see Wound of the World is still the main section. How are you going to do the final battle? I presume that the expansion is going to see the Old god taint removed for good. How is that going to happen? Is the King of Darkness still going to be the final boss? I do appreciate how you modified some of your stuff for class campaigns. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by PirateLord193 (talk · contr).

Can't give away the whole finale before I even seriously get started working on things, now can I? The King of Darkness will be a big part of the final chapter of World's Heart, and we'll also see Azeroth the Titan herself choosing an avatar to fight the Void Lords. GoldenYak (talk) 19:31, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

Since Artifacts were introduced in Legion may I assume that Legion took place before the Into the Void Expansion. If you aren't I may be willing to drop a few ideas —The preceding unsigned comment was added by PirateLord193 (talk · contr).

Honestly, I'm not even worrying about making my expansions integrate with the actual Blizzard storyline at all. I want to do a Emerald Dream expansion next and that will just be flat out ignoring Legion and what it did with the Emerald Dream. I'm just doing my thing for fun. GoldenYak (talk) 18:30, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

Writer's Block

I have noticed that you have not edited anything in about 9 days, and you took a 3-month break before that. Do you have writer's block, or is something else taking your time away from your projects? User:Dragnaxx32

More occupied with other projects unrelated to WoW. A couple work and personal related things. I was just on vacation for a week away from all art and games and most electronics, but now that I'm back I'd like to get back to finishing Into the Void. I'll be doing the writing and hopefully getting some art done as well.GoldenYak (talk) 06:52, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
More writer's block again Yak? Or is it more personal stuff? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dragnaxx32 (talk · contr).

Patch 7.3 Models - Titan Argus?

Have you seen the models for Patch 7.3 yet? Some are cool, but I am confused why Eonar and Aggramar are listed as raid bosses on Wowhead. Also, I thought Argus was not a titan, and Sargeras just came to the eredar and Argus for their military might and strategies, not because Argus was a titan. I also like the new void models (especially the revenant), it looks like they will play a big part in the story of Argus. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dragnaxx32 (talk · contr).

Indeed! The new models are looking good - real good! Very interested in the implications of the Titans being present on Argus in some capacity. Maybe echoes of their power stolen by Sargeras? Maybe memories of the Titans, fought in some kind of flashback encounter? I also am very interested in the new Void entities, particularly the Void ethereals. I wish I'd gotten more concept art of Void monsters done before now! So far it's looking to be a spectacular patch. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by GoldenYak (talk · contr).

I'm wondering who "Argus" is on the dungeon journal. And Honestly I'm thinking maybe you could redo all of WOW at this point. Starting with Reign of Chaos and going all the way through to the finale. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by PirateLord193 (talk · contr).

Updating older projects

After you finish your World's Heart expansion concept, will you go back to your older concepts and update them with art for every entry in the bestiary, instance maps, and boss strategies? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dragnaxx32 (talk · contr).

Maybe! I do kind of want to finish off the bestiaries with art.GoldenYak (talk) 03:06, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

Worlds of Warcraft

I love your Into the Void art, but do you have any plans to do more work on this? User:Dragnaxx32

I don't have any immediate plans to work on that project. The main thing I was interested in was creating the setting itself and writing the chronicle of the Titan Worlds origin. Now they're there and I can drop ideas and concepts into the various worlds whenever I happen to think of one, but I don't really have a plan for a big storyline or a cohesive narrative.GoldenYak (talk) 09:26, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

Random Questions

Is the Godtamer boss in Raxx-Vespar a hollow knight reference? User:Dragnaxx32

Yes. In fact, many of the Raxx-Vespar bosses are Hollow Knight references - the 'Great Mind' (Gorb), 'Grimmjaxx', 'Sisters of Battle, etc. I love that game. GoldenYak (talk) 18:21, 30 December 2018 (UTC)

Into the Void Art

Any plans to continue those pieces? I really loved where you were taking them, and was wondering if you had any plans to finish them. I'm especially interested in your design for the numerous void-based creatures you've created. ...speaking of which, what's your opinion on the design for the true aqir in 8.3? How did it differ from your ideas of the subraces you created, like the myrmec and vespari/how did it compare to your idea of what they would look like? User:Dragnaxx32

I don't have any plans to continue with WoW related stuff at present. I'm mainly focused on personal projects right now. As for the aqir, they're actually really close to what I long thought - mainly a general mash-up of bug-parts crossed with faceless ones. I think they look really cool - the Visions of N'Zoth splashscreen where you see Ny'alotha and all the Old God forces arrayed out in a huge army is one of my favorite pieces of WoW artwork. Any bug-race derived from the aqir I imagined would look closer to existing earth-based bugs - like the nerubians being based on spiders and the mantid being obviously based on mantises. Myrmec were ant-based and vespari were wasp-based.GoldenYak (talk) 18:44, 18 April 2020 (UTC)
