Empire of Night

Nightborne Race Icon.png

The Empire of Night is the dominant force over the Nightlands, having driven all other races besides themselves and the dragons to extinction, purging them all. They mastered their world through arcane mastery over nature and by worship of Elune through her avatar, Queen Mother Tyande Whisperwind, who stands at the cultural heart of the Empire of Night. The Green Dragonflight was brought to the fold thanks to Tyrande en-scrolling the leader of the Greens, Ysera, into her servant. Now warriors riding upon Green Dragons back the Sentinel and Magisters when they march to war, an act that has not happened in centuries until the Collision led to the Hundred Year War. The once highly maintained society and forests of the Empire are now under threat once more as their borders burn under invasion, while their own forces invade other lands to purge any threat to their Empire.

Their society is a highly regulated and strict one; only women can join the Sentinels that patrol and guard the forests and borders of their society, the Duskwatch that maintain vigil over the cities through highly militarized police force and the Sisterhood that maintain the religious devotion to the Queen Mother; only men can become the arcane Druids that shape nature to the needs of their society, captain the ships and navy forces, and govern the rules of magic and join the Magisters. This is not to say that female druids or male priests do not exist, but they are rare and usually only exist in the outer regions of the Empire, the powerful cities maintain their strict society, and those that break the norm are looked down upon by the upper society, seen as deviants.
