Languages

Frankal Stonebridge mentions that between Brann Bronzebeard, Rutgar Glyphshaper and Glibb (a "monkey" incapable of speech), they know 38 languages. What are those languages?

Language lists more than 38, but many are not applicable or not canon. The three characters mentioned are dwarves of the Explorers' League at the time of the opening of the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj, so the 38 must be languages they can possibly have learnt.

Valid languages

Languages of the Alliance and Horde at the time of Vanilla :

  • Common
  • Dwarven
  • Gnomish
  • Darnassian
  • Orcish
  • Zandali
  • Taur-ahe
  • Gutterspeak

Other languages :

  • Thalassian (neighbours and former Alliance members)
  • Goblin (trade with everyone)

Languages of races studied by the League :

  • Ancient earthen
  • Titan (confirmed in the same dialogue)
  • Kalimag (confirmed; Muradin could read the runes on Frostmourne's pedestal)

Languages the League could have learnt on Kalimdor :

  • Elunite
  • Furbolg
  • Quilboar

Languages of races that have been long enough on Azeroth/on land :

  • Draconic
  • Eredun
    • Other demonic
  • Nazja
  • Nerglish
  • Ogre
  • Zombie
  • Draenei (Lost ones in the Swamp of Sorrows possibly)
  • Pandaren (Chen Stormstout's been to Dun Morogh and was Magni's friend)

Languages they could have learnt while on Northrend in WCIII :

  • Nerubian
  • Tuskarr
  • Vrykul

total : 28

Invalid languages

  • Qiraji (The dwarves are in Silithus to try to translate Qiraji
  • Shath'yar ("a language none of us had ever heard")
  • Nathrezim (as of Legion only Nathrezim and some demons know it)

Languages from the Broken Isles :

  • Shalassian
  • Drogbar

Languages from Kul Tiras & Zandalar :

  • Vulpera
  • Tortollan
  • Drust ("Scholars have tried to translate the ancient language transcribed within these tomes, only to find themselves going mad")

Languages from the Pandaria :

  • Hozen
  • Jinyu
  • Mantid
  • Mogu
  • Sprite

Languages from Uldum & Lost Isles :

  • Pygmy
  • Tol'vir

Languages from Draenor :

  • Ancient Apexis
  • Ravenspeech

Languages from Shadowlands :

  • Language of death (secret language discovered in WOTLK)
  • First ones (discovered in SL, still undeciphered)

Other languages:

  • Language of the trees

total : 28

RPG languages

4 Dialects of Kalimag

  • Abyssal
  • Giant
  • Gnoll (could still exist)
  • Kalimdoran
  • Low common
  • Undercommon
  • Worgen (still kind of exists in the form of growls)

Races that probably have their own language

Potential languages that would qualify

  • Cenarian
  • Centaur
  • Frostborn
  • Hakkari (they say they don't speak Zandali, "the old tongue")
  • Harpy
  • Kobold
  • Trogg
  • Wolvar
  • Yeti

Others

  • Sethrak
  • Fungarian
  • Virmen
  • Siren
  • Grell
  • Wildkin
  • Mistlurker
  • Jalgar
  • Kvaldir
  • Breaker
  • Gilgoblin
  • Mechagnome
  • Primal
  • Aldrachi
  • Sporeling
  • Saberon
  • Naaru

So total of languages that would count: 38

What else?

  • Different languages for different human kingdoms, as well as the ancient Arathi and other tribes, Northrend trappers, Wastewanders and south seas pirates, with "common" just being the lingua franca (duh)
    • Somewhat confirmed to exist with Gutterspeak and (maybe) Galen Trollbane talking about an "ancient tongue" in  [Sigil of Strom]
    • Up to 13 languages
  • Different languages for each troll civilization, plus frost trolls from the EK and the Hakkari
    • Not really confirmed except by the Hakkari not speaking Zandali and looking down on other cultures
    • Up to 8 languages (including Zandali)
  • Different languages for the different dwarves cultures
    • No cannonicity at all
    • Up to 5 languages (including dwarven)

Proof that the Spanish language exists in Azeroth

List of outsiders who've been to Kalimdor despite the mist

(Chronologically)

Other:

  • Tabetha (year 25) has been training people in that farm for "generations"
  • Ancestral Guardians in Uldum imply that humans have been there for a while
  • Dragons (obv)
  • Medivh
  • Maybe gnolls? They seem to originate from EK but some tribes "natives" to Kalimdor do show up

Conclusion : Just say the Wastewanders arrived ages ago and had time to develop their own culture, clearly no one cares about the mist at this point
