Wuan Xu is the eighth boss of the Abyssal Maw. This corrupted dragon turtle patriarch guards the Hungering Rift, a portal used by N'Zoth's minions to enter the Abyssal Maw. Beastmaster Tima has traveled a great distance to rescue Wuan Xu from the clutches of N'Zoth. Instead of defeating him, the goal of the encounter is to assist Tima in cleansing Wuan Xu's corruption.

This encounter brings together many of the mechanics presented in the raid, from adds, situational awareness, and high DPS. Overcoming the enrage timer is the primary challenge, as losing a single player can cause the raid to struggle.

One of the great dragon turtle patriarchs from Pandaria, Wuan Xu left his ancestral home after the mists parted to explore the rest of Azeroth. His journeys led him to the Abyssal Maw, where the untimely rise of N'Zoth captured and corrupted the generally tranquil beast. Wuan Xu's offspring will suffer without their father's protection, so Beastmaster Tima, a caretaker from Pandaria, has traveled to the Maw to rescue the mighty dragon turtle.

Abilities

• Wuan Xu's CorruptionN'Zoth's influence over Wuan Xu has corrupted him. At the beginning of the battle, the dragon turtle has 100 Corruption. Once this corruption is reduced to zero, Wuan Xu is cleansed. Beastmaster Tima's healing powers gradually reduce Corruption during Phase Two.

Phase One: Bound by Corruption

Four massive Grasps of N'Zoth latch onto Wuan Xu's limbs, immobilizing and shielding him from Tima's restorative magic. Tima attempts to taunt the beast in the waters above.

• Hungering RiftA massive rift in the battlefield periodically spawns two types of Old God minions during the encounter.
  • Hungering ChampionThese knights of N'Zoth come in packs of two. They only join the fight during Phase One.
    •  Shadow BlastThe Hungering Champion fires a volley of evil magic at the party, dealing x Shadow damage to five random players.
    •  Corrupting Detonation When the Hungering Champion is killed, it explodes, dealing x Shadow to all nearby players. If it detonates within y yards of any of the Grasps of N'Zoth, Wuan Xu's Corruption will increase by z.
  • Hungering SwarmHungering Swarms will emerge from the rift throughout both phases.
    •  Corrupting Channel The Hungering Swarms send beams of tainted energy at Wuan Xu, increasing his Corruption by x every y seconds.
•  Tainted SpikeA lesser tentacle rises up from the ground beneath a random player, dealing x damage. The tentacle will collapse towards the same player after a few moments, dealing an addition y damage to anyone caught in it.
•  Dragon BreathWuan Xu's uncontrollable breath fires down at the players, dealing x Shadow damage and placing a Pool of Shadows on the floor.
  •  Pool of ShadowInflicts y Shadow damage every second and reduces movement speed by 30 to anyone standing in it. These pools remain on the floor for the entirety of the encounter.
•  Vile OozeCorruption leaking from Wuan Xu's shell oozes onto the battlefield in a clockwise motion, dealing x Shadow damage every two seconds.
•  Snap Wuan Xu bites and chomps at Tima, dealing x damage.
  •  Roar of N'Zoth If Wuan Xu loses his target, he will unleash an swarm of corruption, dealing x Shadow damage every second to all players.

Phase Two: The Purification

Once all four Grasps of N'Zoth have been destroyed, Tima begins the cleansing process, gradually removing Wuan Xu's corruption. After a set amount of time, the Graps of N'Zoth return and Phase One begins again.

• Reach of N'ZothA massive limb of N'Zoth emerges from the Hungering Rift and assaults the players.
  •  Unstable Madness If there aren't at least two players in melee range of the Reach, it will release massive amounts of corruption, dealing x Shadow damage every second.
  •  SmashThe Reach of N'Zoth targets a player and collapses upon them, dealing x damage to anyone caught in its wake.
  •  Tangling Tendrils The Reach of N'Zoth spawns two additional tendrils which snatch two random players and dangle them over the rift. After x seconds, they will drop them into the rift, killing them instantly.
•  Toxic CurrentsWuan Xu's thrashing calls upon waves of corruption that slowly approach the players at different directions, dealing x Shadow every two seconds. Each wave has a gap where corruption fails to reach.
•  Shower of CorruptionAs Tima heals Wuan Xu, the escaping corruption falls from his body onto the players, dealing x Shadow damage and leaving Pools of Shadow.
